Trying to answer a question for a fellow model railroader, did bachmann ever make a model of the Chinese 2-10-2?

Yes.  They make/made a model of the Chinese QJ 2-10-2.  It is a beautifully detailed model that runs very well.  I have one and have been very pleased with it.  Bachmann also makes models of Chinese passenger and freight cars which would be appropriate for the QJ to pull.

I believe the QJ's are no longer being offered from Bachmann.  You may have to scour local hobby shops or e-bay if you really need one.  I see that a third QJ recently arrived in the U.S. for use on the R.J. Corman RR lines in Kentucky.
