HO / Re: 2-8-0 with sound availibility?

If you buy from Bachmann considering they have it, you will most probably pay full price.
Send an email to Micro Mark. They will answer. I have sent questions and they answered me. It took a few days as they get a lot of email.
A more expensive with DCC/sound below. I have bought from Tony's and Caboose.
Tony's Trains has the 2-8-0 with Tsunami.
http://www.tonystrains.com/locomotive/bachmann.htm
Caboose Hobbies has it with the Tsunami.

Cold Spring Hobbies has a B&O with the Tsunami for $160.
I have bought from Tom's Trains. They have 30% off and $8.95 for shipping.

Since you posted the question twice, I will put my resonse here also.

Here are quite a few I found on Google.

http://www.thortrains.net/4holayx.html
http://www.thortrains.net/poorhox.html
http://www.trainweb.org/railvids/modelrailroad.htm

Adapt one to what you would like. With flex track, it should not be too difficult to modify.

Also:
http://kalmbachcatalog.stores.yahoo.net/model-railroading-books-home-layout-ideas.html

With what it is going to cost to build a layout you want, you can easily buy at least one model railroading planning book from Kalmbach. It sounds like you have not done this before so a couple of model railroad planning books will be usefull. You are going to have to do the planning yourself. You will no doubt get new ideas after you start building.

Sorry. It has been a few years since I got free of AOL. I forgot. I am 66 and not a computer geek. I just made it a goal to be free of AOL. My stepson who is 48 and a computer geek keeps telling me the geeks have won.
Hopefully you will be able to get free some day. It is not very difficult.

Cheers

Usually your computer browser has to be configured to keep the login info for how ever many days you want. Check your browser settings.
I do not have the issues as I my browser is configured to remove all login in information everytime I close the browser. At least there is a much smaller chance of leaving login information in some files on my computer, plus I use Firefox for a browser (much more secure than IE & better than AOL) and Linux OS.

I did a Yahoo search for "model railroad layout" and came up with this one. It was the second link listed.

http://www.gatewaynmra.org/mhslayout/mhstrackplan.htm

You ought to know that the 'Net is a huge library. Learn to search it and you will find more information thant you will ever need.

Yes that was it. About an hour later I went back to the thread in the HO forum and the poster took the link out.

Hi Ray;

Looks like the picture you are trying to show is from the members only section on the NKPH&TS's website.

This links seems to work, but not as an embedded picture:
http://nkphts.railfan.net/preservation/pictures/steam/nkp304jpg.html

I wonder if that is why I get a pop up message asking me to log in?
The first time I looked at this thread, the original post was the only message and no pop up.
No I get a pop up everytime I try to read or reply.

Tonight when I went to look at some subjects in this message board and the HO message board, I saw a pop up log in request in only the  "Alco 4-6-0 anyone" thread. I ignored the message and it went away. Much of the time I do not log in if I have nothing to say.

Any ideas on this one?

Good Morning All,

There is this constant reference to the Bachmann engines equipped with Tsunami Sound Decoders.   For what it is worth,  and if it really makes a difference,  read the box your engine came in.  Does it say "Tsunami technology"?    There is a difference.   I can tell you for a fact the K4 supposedly has the Tsunami light steam decoder,  but it does not have all the whistle selections that the actual Tsunami decoder has.   I guess what I am asking here is this,   what other differences might there be?   Does the decoder in the Bachmann engines have all the operating values that the true Tsunami have,  etc.    Also let me clear,  my son has one of the K4s and except for its light weight the engine runs quite nicely and sounds great.
Buying a Bachmann engine with Tsunami technology is still a GREAT buy,  but after having 6 engines with full blown Tsunamis,  I think it important that one knows the difference.

Bob

Hi Bob

Tony's Trains sells HO Bachmann engines with the Tsunami. You might ask them.

Rick,

A couple of notes. I put a Tsunami in a 4-4-0. I lowered the Bachmann board and the Tsunami fit fine.

There is no need to solder a plug to the Tsunami.

If you peel back the very end of the plastic wrap where the wires come out of the Tsunami, you will see it is a JST plug. I bought a conversion connector, JST on one end, NMRA pin on the other, and the Tsunami plugged right in. No soldering.

I went with the DSD-100LC (Tony's Trains) as they were $40, (DSD-090LC a few dollars more)  at a train show nearby. Speaker was $5.00. I am happy witht the features. The 090 has sync capabilities also.
Economy drove me as I have some old time 2-6-0s and 4-6-0s that will have DCC sound also.

I know the decoder is a soundtrax tsunumie but the Bachmann instructions that came with the loco show only a breakdown diagram of the engine itself no mention or instructionspertaining to the decoder.....must be a big ass secret ;D

Where did you buy your Spectrum with the Tsunami decoder? Which engine do you have?

Reset a decoder.http://www.tonystrains.com/technews/dec_rescue.htm
I found the above in a simple search first time.
Go to Tony's Trains and look arounf at SoundTraxx products.
http://www.tonystrains.com/products/soundtraxx.htm
Also, SoundTraxx site.
http://www.soundtraxx.com/
Also there is a Yahoo SoundTraxx forum that has Files and Photos section also. I belobg to this group.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/soundtraxx/
Last resort, do a Google or Yahoo search for Tsunami decoder manual as a start.
Build a bookmark or favorites selection of DCC sites. You are very limited if this is your only site for DCC.

I have the Spectrum Richmond 4-4-0 with DCC and I looked at all the paper work that came with the engine and there is no info conerning this.
Besides I replaced the decoder with a SoundTraxx DCC/sound decoder and the paper work with this decoder tells me what CV to use. I did that twice so I know it works.
I have the NCE Power Cab and there is a section on Recovery Programming for a decoder, though I have yet to try that method.  Read through your documentation for the controller and see if there is anything like that.

From what i learned from my Spectrum conversion to sound, a SoundTraxx DSD-090LC light steam decoder would fit in the space occupied by the stock Spectrum decoder. It would plug in where the stock decoder plugs in but you have to solder a 8 pin NMRA plug to the decoder wires. Tony's Trains sells the Spectrum with low cost DCC sound decoder for $249.95. My Spectrum cost $165 including shipping  from Micro Mark and another $65 for a DSD-100LC decoder and speaker a lot of work. Some of the engine and tender details are rather delicate. The decoder is larger than the DSD-090LC. The low cost sound decoder does not have near as many features as the Roundhouse.
If you want the max, Tony's Trains has the Spectrum with premium sound which I think is the Tsunami decoder.
If I knew about Tony's Trains at the time, I would have bought the low cost DCC/sound decoder version.
The Roundhouse with DCC/sound from Caboose Hobbies cost $151.96, plus shipping. It is not quie as pretty as the Spectrum but has a lot of sound features.
