I did a sound install using a SoundTraxx DSD-100LC generic steam decoder. Go to:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EarlyRail/ and subscribe to the Yahoo group. It is free.
Then go to photos and click on Bachmann 4-4-0.
Also go to Tony's trains and select Products SoundTraxx. Look for the DSD decoders.
I removed the factory DCC module and pc board. I soldered in the decoderand installed a speaker.
I would suggest the DSD-090 decoder if you can find one. It would plug directly into the pc board.

going by the 2007 Cataloge, its an Standered Old Timer painted up for the B&O Royal Blue. I Believe this would be protoypicall correct paint scheme as they did do a special paint scheme, However I do not know what it looks like as I never can/could find a pic of the very first Royal Blue.

If I hear your correctly, you are talking about the HO old time 4-4-0 with tender drive that has been recently released, not the Spectum 4-4-0 with DCC.
I am probably wrong but Mr Bach-man did not say Spectrumm 4-4-0 and I assumed Spectrum.

HO / Re: 4-4-0 and 4-6-0 question

You did not specify which 4-4-0 but I have the new HO Spectrum Richmond 4-4-0 and the drivers are 61".
My Spectrum has spoked wheelsets.
I hear pros and cons concerning the Bachmann parts department. The parts department never answered my email request for information so I sent a snail mail request with a self addressed stamped envelope requesting parts available information.
The Bach-man seems to indicate that Bachmann does have live people in a real parts department.
No doubt with the cost of keeping live people employed, it has caused Bachmann to operate with as few people as possible. The only explanation that I can see.

There is a 4-4-0 available in the Spectrum line - wood cab & steel cab as well as Maryland & Pennsylvania #4, 5, & 6.  These are NICE engines but I'm not sure of the time period.

Yes I know. I have the HO B&O #875. I was hoping Mr Bach-man could elaborate on what he said in a post. Look at the first post in this forum by Mr Bach-man, New HO Items Announced at Toy Fair
I could find nothing concerning this Toy Fair he mentions. Possibly this Toy Fair is not for mere mortals, only distributors.
It might be he is under the thumb of a bean counter and can only tease us with a little future info.
I saw in a another train forum that someone wanted info on a Spectrum HO 2-8-0 with DCC & sound.
I asked Mr Bach--man where this engine is listed and he told me to buy the 2007 catalog. This engine is not in the Bachmann site. Only the one with DCC only.
Go figure. The best consolation is Bachmann is making much better products than they use to.

Dear All,
Here are the First Quarter HO announcements. Please see my caveats in other posts!

Dear Mr. Bach-man

I could not find the caveats in other post. Do you have any more information concerning the above engine. Finding early rail stuff is difficult. Thanks.

I would try snail mail with a self addressed stamped envelope included.

I hope your correct. I have an issue with a Spectrum HO 4-4-0 that I need help with. The loco came with a decent parts list. I caused the issue but it would be nice to have parts available and someone who is knowledgeable concerning the parts.
Lets see what the Bach-man has to say.

I have done this with a MRC 2000. On the three channel console, the first throttle is capable of running DC locomotives. It was easy to match speeds with my DCC locos. All I had to do is watch the coupler slack. That makes operating a fun challenge. Besides, no engineers years ago knew anything about consisting. The DC engine pushed at the rear of the string of freight cars. The DCC loco was in the lead.
Downside is this can be hard on the loco motor while the engine is sitting.

HO / Re: Assembling HO Spectrum 2-8-0

Hello Mr Bach-man

Where is this Spectrum 2-8-0 Consolidation with DCC & Sound On-Board in the Bachmann catalog? I think I completely searched the HO steam engine category but only saw DCC equipped steam engines. None were listed as having sound. I also searched using key word sound and no HO 2-8-0 engines with sound. I would like to buy one. Thank you.
