I'm just starting to get back into model railroading for the first time after childhood, and I am trying to plan potential layouts. I was wondering if there is any software (or internet program) available for planning a layout that would keep me from having to break out the graph paper, ruler, compass, etc. I would like to use the nickel-silver EZ-track, but really want to figure out exactly what pieces I'd need (& how much it will cost) before I start to buy. Didn't know if Bachmann or other companies had something like that where you could virtually assemble w/their track pieces.
I have some Rivarossi passenger cars, & 18" radius is a bit much for them, so I assume I'll wan to use at least 22" if not 24" or 28" radius curves for the main line. Other than that, I'm pretty open design-wise. Thanks.

Try this one,,,,seems like a good one has a bit of a learning curve

Thanks. I'll give it a try.
Dear Fridge,
There are differences between the Atlas HO and Bachmann EZ-Track HO pieces. For example, you can remove a 10 degree-18"R (=1/3) curve from the Atlas 'snap switch'. You can't with the EZ-Track "remote switch".

Hope this helps.

I use 3rd PlanIt -- a great tool ( http://www.trackplanning.com/index.htm ): It has all the standard fixed rail systems but you might be tempted to go to flex track once you see what you can do.

I have downloaded 3PlanIT and can't understand it and it's
verry confusing, it looks good and it would work good if I could get
it to work for me.

I use RR-Track http://www.rrtrack.com/ (http://www.rrtrack.com/) at the store to help folks figure out if their plan drawn on a napkin will really work. They are pretty good about keeping the track libraries updated with new items, and updates are free.

I've been using Cadrail 9 with good results.
You can find the software at

hope this helps.
Also, if you go with the free Atlas RTS8.0 use the 'True-Track' library.
This will avoid the problem Joe mentions, since the 1/3-18in radius section with the switches is locked into an outward curve the same as on EZ-Track.
