I appreaciate the info.  I was originally planning on 26" or 28" curves.  I'll have to do a little revising of my planned layout.  I hadn't checked Con Cor yet will look at what they have to offer.  I'm fairly new to this so thank you for share your knowledge.  Any further insites are welcomed.  Again Thank you.   akakrak

I'm planning on modeling one of the Chicago and Northwestern 400's.  I haven't been able to find much of a selection of manufacturers of items in the Cnw roadname.  I see Walthers has a good selection, and Rapido seems to make several cars.   Are there any other manufactures I should look at?  What are your personnel opinions on the brands, pros/cons (minimum turn radius ect.).  Greatly appreciate the sharing of your wisdom.

Thank you for the information.  Does anyone have an opinion about Rapido passenger cars.  Are then any issues with couplers?  I'm presently using Kadee # 5.

Thank you for the advice. I was trying to figure out where I'd put all that in my little switcher.  I'll probably just go DCC on it and buy a sound equipped switcher as suggested.  The prices I've seen seem close enough to what I'd spend just trying to upgrade it anyway.  Hopefully I'll be able to find one the Milwaukee road colors. ;D

Thanks for the information. I had just recently heard about Loksound.  Can anybody offer their opinion on quality and their personal experience with Soundtraxx, Digitrax, MRC, or Loksound.  I know most of these manufacturers make sound only decoders also.  Can they be used with the NCE DCC decoders, and would it be worth the extra effort that it would probably require instead of buying one that already does both?

HO / decoders and sound

I'm sure this may have already been covered else where in this forum.  I'm want to upgrade 3 locomotives to DCC and sound. My question is this I'd like to go with NCE decoders, but it doesn't look like they sell them with sound, or am I mistaken?  If I'm going with sound would another brand such as Digitraxx be a better choice?  The main reason I'm leaning toward NCE is they sell a decoder that replaces the factory installed circuitboard in my SW9/1200.

Thanks for the information, I am planning at the moment to have nothing under a 28" radius for a turn if I can manage it still planning my layout, and adjusting it as need be.

Thanks for the help. I'M DIGGING INTO IT NOW.   Ultimately I'd like to Model my passenger train after the Kate Shelley, which at the end of its career was running from Chicago to Clinton Iowa.  Thanks for the info! ;D

General Discussion / Passenger Cars question
March 15, 2007, 12:09:10 AM
I'm in the process of buying passenger cars for my planned layout, being new I'm not sure what the correct type of car, (heavyweight, Streamlined) to run with a Chicago & Northwestern E6A engine.  Does anyone know of a good source for this type of information.   The last time I saw a C&NW passenger train I thought they were streamliners, but that was over 30 years ago, but for some reason I want to say that the engine being used for that was a F7.  Any help would be appreciated, Thank you.

New to the hobby but I went with DCC.  I like it so far. I have a friend that runs DC and after seeing mine, he is think about switching.  Presently planning on converting 2 Proto 2000 and an Athearn that I've recently purchased.
