Title: GG1 #41799 Williams by Bachman
Post by: roberto on June 19, 2009, 01:31:15 PM
I am interested in purchasing #41799 GG1 and I have a question about the tru blast horn and bell.  Will the horn and bell work when the engine is powered by a Lionel transformer?  If not, is there something I can get that will allow the horn and bell to work?

My experience with Lionel transformers goes only to the CW80. TB2 locos (or at least my two) don't really like it. I prefer MTH transformers. Jim's Train Shop has great prices, fast shipping and Jim is the nicest person to deal with.

I don't have a G.  But do have Williams.  Will work with Lionel:

1.  Powerhouse/Powermaster and Cab-1 in TMCC  conv.

2.  Powerhouse(s)/TPC3-400/command base and Cab-1 in TMCC conv.

Heard too many stories about the CW-80.  I'll leave experiments to Gomez Adams!

Dear Roberto,

Build a better sound activation button
Classic Toy Trains, November 1998 page 104
Upgrade your transformer with this simple-to-build device
( ELECTRONICS, SOUND, "ZOLLO, JOHN", CTT )

I built one of these for my lionel 1033 transformer.  Works rather nicely with my Williams GP-38.

Tapped into the boost winding inside the 1033 instead of adding an additional transformer as shown in the article.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik
