Title: EZ Command Dynamis
Post by: ray tomblin on July 31, 2007, 04:36:25 PM
Bachman,

My question is reference to the new EZ command wireless system.

1. Will it match up with present EZ command system being used?
2. How many trains will it handle?
3. Can you give a ballpark figure?
4. Also can you program the CV's with it?

I have been thinking about buying a new system as the EZ command will only handle up to nine (9) trains and you can't program the CV's. At least I don't think you can. I love the Bachman products and sure hope it can be released at a fordable price.

Dear R,
The Dynamis will replace your EZ Command- sort of an EZ Command II. You can control up to 40 trains, and you can program CVs. The price is still TBA.
Have fun!

The price I would hope needs to be in the ball park of the other units now on the market.

Well, the Digitrax Zephyr is $200, so the Dynamis whould have to be at or below that, since that seems to be the kind of system Bachmann is aiming at.

I've seen it for E79.

From what I have been able to determine the unit will be very affordable since the one selling in the UK was 99.95 pounds. This equals approximately 275.85 in USD according to my bank. Already have put one on order through Walthers.

Ray:

Take your GB Pounds to that bank as quickly as possible. They are really paying a significant premium on the exchange!!   ;) ;)

The current exchange rate is 1 GB Pound = $2.04. That makes 99.95 GB Pounds worth ~$203.98.

The 79 Euros mentioned by 'pdlethbridge' converts to ~$108.84. Looks better to price it and buy it in Eruos than in GB Pounds.   :) :)

Those rates changes continually, but (usually) only by small amounts.

Happy RRing,

Jerry

At K-10's Model Trains it's only $160!  ;D

retail price for the North America will be $300, with a street price of around $180-200.
also, before jumping out and ordering a unit from a UK dealer, understand that the power supply will not work here in North America, you will just have to wait for the release of the US model, or spend extra $$$ for a new power supply.

Never considered that. A BIG thanks for that information.

Isn't Dynamis one of those 'new' control systems that maintains the 'train's' speed regardless of the grade?  Back EMF or soemthing?

If "yes", who wants that?

I for one want to operate my locomotives.  I want them to slow down when climbing a grade and speed up on the way down,  unless I decide to open or close the throttle to maintain speed.

I operate a model Railroad and I want myself and my operators to control them, not have some electronic gizmo do it for me.

Of course, your ideas may differ from mine and if you enjoy what you do, more power to you.

Rodger

Back EMF is part of the decoder not the system.

I agree with you as to the operation of trains when used as cruise control.

However it is adjustable and when properly set up it can make your trains
more prototypical in operation.   It is especially useful for slow speed and
switching operations.  And when combined with sound it really shines.

Regarding the comment re the Dynamis power supply:

The power supply supplied with my Dynamis here in South Africa is rated for 110-240v supply so unless UL Rating requires something different it should be suitable for US use, needing only a change in plug.

Daveb,

My question is does the unit actually do everything that they say it will do? I have had mine on backorder through Walthers for about 6-7 months now, but don't know when it will be available.

I am, so far, very satisfied with my unit, it is very comfortable to use and does what it is advertised to do. I have not used it for any extensive use of programming cv's as I have a SPROG and programming track connected to my PC which I use in conjunction with DecoderPro software for setting up decoders.

I have found it necessary to disable it's automatic timeout when communication fails between the handheld unit and control box as every time I put the handheld down out of near line of sight of the control box, 10 seconds later everything would come to a halt. This is user configurable.

One minor irritation that there appears to be no way of sorting the loco roster, it remains in the order in which it is loaded which may be fine until you start adding and deleting.

I have no experience of other systems apart from the original EZ-Command
but would not hesitate to recommend the Dynamis.
