HO / Age of engine
May 07, 2014, 12:04:03 AM
Is their a way to tell  what year my Bachmann Spectrum 70 Ton Climax was manufactured
I was reading, on line, that if my engine was made in 2011, or later, it might have a 21 pin socket for the addition of Soundtraxx Tsumani sound system and a speaker.  This loco was sent to me by Bachmann as a replacement for a climax no sound, with gear problems.  I have looked at the diagram and all I can find is 2 boards they call PCB02and PCB03.  Picture not clear enough to see how many pins there are.  From what the article says, Bachmann is selling the add on sound module with a 21 pin connector.  The only information I can find on the box is the stock number 82902.

Thanks Ken,
I have been trying to call them, but has been busy all day.  They sent me this engine after I sent my Shay in for repair.  Unfortunately it has been over a year.  From what I read, they now require a payment of $45.00 just to look at it.  Thanks again for your help.

Thanks for the response Ken.  All the drives are hooked up, but not turning when the power is applied.  I hear the motor running and the side valves are going in an out.

My S2 will stop on every Atlas Custom Line Switch.  There is no sound or power.  get beyond the switch, it works fine.  Switches are clean.  This is the only engine with sound valve the does this.  Any Ideas?
Thanks.

HO / Re: 3 truck climax barely working

I have the same problem with DCC.  The steam cylinders move, and the engine will move just a bit and then stops.  The cylinders are still moving up and down, but the engine does not move. It is getting plenty of power, I think it might be something in the gears, I really don't know.  Hope someone can help you.  I will be watching with interest.

HO / Spectrum 3 Truck Climax DCC

Has anyone heard about any problems with the gears not working on this engine?  The motor is running, and the rods are moving, but the engine does not move.  Anyone else run into this problem?   This engine has only been run several times over the last year.
Thanks

HO / Bachmann Sound Value DCC Alco S-2
December 25, 2012, 05:56:56 PM
I have both a Bachmann S-2 with Sound Value sound, and a Climax without sound.  I have a NCE Power Pro system.  All of my other  non  Bachmann engines can be configured on the Main.  I have tried to configure the S-2 and the Climax and can't change the address.  Both always stay at 3.  I have tried to change the address with CV1 and it still stays at 3.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to change the address?

HO / Spectrum 80 Ton 3 Truck Shay
December 27, 2011, 11:07:41 AM
Hi,

I have a HO Spectrum 80 ton 3 truck shay that does not run.  All the gears and cranks are moving, and the sound is good, but it does not move down the track at all.  I don't know which wheel is the drive wheel, but they all move freely.  Everything on the DCC works fine.  Anyone have the same problem, and have a cure for it?

Thanks,

HO / Bachman 2-8-0
August 27, 2011, 12:45:24 AM
I have an older bachman 2-8-0 with DCC.  The engine runs very good in Forward, but it siezes up in reverse.  I can not see anything rubbing in the running gear.  It is strange that it runs so well in forwared.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

HO / Bachmann 280 circuit board
August 17, 2010, 02:51:43 PM
???  How do I tell which version of their circuit board that I have?  The loco has a DCC plug in it, but from what I have read, there were problems with the first two versions.  The loco was given to me, without any instructions.  The dummy plug was in the box, but not plugged in, so I don't know which way to plug it in the socket.  I would like to run it on DC and see if it runs ok, before installing a DCC decoder or a Sound Decoder.  Also, are there two pick-up trucks on the tender or just one?  I have a wiper on the front truck, but not any on the rear.  At a loss without instructions.
Any help would be appreciated.
