HO / Re: IHC Covered Hoppers

I've used white glue and fishing weights for years to ballast HO and On30 rolling stock.I've also used it in N scale cars.Eleene's tacky glue also works very well

I have a rather large collection of old Bachmann-LifeLike-AHM/IHC-TYCO cars and have discovered that the price of a truck tuner is more than offset by the better rolling action of the cars. They will eventually all get metal wheels ,but for right now I am happy with the stock plastic wheels.

On30 / Re: Converting an HO layout to On30
August 21, 2013, 11:18:41 AM
When we built our On30 layout we used ATLAS code 100 flex and just removed every other tie then just shifted the ties around to vary the spacing. While it is true the HO ties are short for O scale once they are ballasted they don't look bad.

It says DCC equipted right on the box and in the enclosed literature. The loco is not a high priority item for the moment and I have done nothing with it.Thanks for the suggestions I will keep them in mind once I get into the project. :).

On30 / Non- cooperative DCC equipted gas mechanical
August 13, 2013, 10:32:30 AM
Hi,
About a year and a half ago I bought a DCC equipted gas mechanical.other than a short inspection the loco was never out of the box till last night.I put it on the club's layout, selected the 003 setting and nothing happened. No motion, no lighting, nothing.

We checked it for straight DC and it runs fine but I want my DCC.

While I am asking for help/information I have another one that is straight DC ,the question is How much trouble would it be to put DCC in this one?

Thanks for any help.

N / Re: ez track

What my friend Bill does is after he lays the track the way he wants it he draws the out line of the road bed and the layout, removes the track and glues short pieces of cork roadbed where the nails would go.one the glue dries he puts the track back and pushes track or small finishing nails through the nail holes into the cork.

If your wondering how well that works ,Bill's layout has been serving show duty for the last 3 years with out one piece of track coming loose unless he wanted it to. By the way we used this same method on our TTRAK layout for roughly 5 years while using KATO track.

HO / Re: Weathering Help on a vehicle model

Jonathan, did you by chance handle the car with your bare hands before the gloss cote? While I am thinking of it is that black paint? or just the colour of the plastic?

If you want it looking new or restored strip the body then repaint but wear latex gloves (if your not allergic to latex).just do not touch the car with your bare hands till it is finished.

One more thing before I forget after stripping the paint and before painting wash the body and fenders in warm water and dish soap and let air dry.

Derailers are used on sidings the are connected to mainline trackage. The reason being if a freight car gets loose the derailer will derail the car before it can get to the mainline and cause a wreck.

HO / Early version Dash 8-40C
April 30, 2013, 11:51:53 AM
I have a very nice running early pre DCC Dash 8-40C that I would like to convert to DCC.What I need to know is if the motor is isolated from the frame. It looks to me like it is, but I figure this is the place to find out.

Anybody got an answer for me ?
