HO / EZ track turnouts
October 23, 2013, 02:21:07 PM
I'm building my layout with Bachmann EZ track and pretty well have the track laid.  I have a few elevations to finish as well as a tunnel.  I have two questions:

[1] On the EZ track turnouts 44561 & 44562, the switch unit itself that the user actually depresses to actuate the switch mechanism ---  Are they capable of 'pairing' together?  By this I mean only for the red feeder wire that supplies power.  As far as the switching goes, I will want them to remain independent.  They will join together on the sides, but I didn't want to try without consulting experienced modelers first.

[2] Once I get everything where I want it, I was thinking about fastening the track permanently.  Would glue here and there be sufficient?  I notice the tiny little holes at each end & center of the ties, but didn't want to deal with that.

Any advise/suggestions are always appreciated.

HO / Slight derailment issues
October 15, 2013, 03:40:53 PM
I've just set up my layout after a few design changes based upon advise from jward and Doneldon (thanks again, guys)   Anyway, I'm using Bachmann EZ track with 18r curves and the left and right corresponding turnouts.  I have a C&O 2-8-0 locomotive and a GP40 (I think) Santa Fe diesel.  The locomotive is derailing upon entering the turnouts.  Not every time, mind you, just here and there.  The Santa Fe diesel rolls right through and has never had a problem.  The turnouts are at each end of the full curve, and turnout in question is a left turnout as the locomotive approaches from a long straight section about to make the curve.  I've noticed that its 'catching' on the two small guide wheels at the front.

Any idea on what I should look for, especially since it's maybe 1 in 3 instances on average.  I'm sure its a simple thing but I'm a 54 year old rookie in railroad modeling.

Doneldon - the 28 month old grandson literally screamed with joy when he saw the two trains running when he got here this morning.  Every penny I've invested was justified in that moment.

HO / Bachmann Dynamis layout
October 07, 2013, 03:27:49 PM
Hello everyone.  I've had several good answers to questions I've posted since joining and appreciate all of your help.  I did purchase the Dynamis set with the C&O 2880 locomotive and tender.  I put together the 56"x38" oval of track that comes with it and gave it a test run.  I love the system as well as EZ track.  It is a far cry from my old Lionel 027 layout that I currently have.

Anyway, I've decided to expand the layout in a traditional 4x8 format and in using the Anyrail software, I've created a over/under loop with a passing siding and one parking siding.   I will have two DCC turnouts and two remote turnouts.  The total track length is about 44'.  My question is:  will the power supply be sufficient to run this layout with two DCC decoded engines?

I'm building this initial layout with an option to expand on one end in the future and surely realize I'll have to purchase a booster of some sort that I've seen mentioned here and there on the site.

Thanks again for the help

HO / Adding sound to DCC diesel
September 12, 2013, 07:57:33 PM
Hello everyone!

I'm just getting into the DCC world with HO scale.  I like my ancient (but small) Lionel 027 layout, but just like me, it is slowing with age and showing wear and tear.

Anyway on my first post I got some wonderful input/advice comparing EZ Command vs Dynamis.  In the end I'm going with the Dynamis set from 'thefavoritespot'  From emailing with him, he recommended the Dynamis as well.  My question is this:  Is it possible (or worthwhile) to install sound on a DCC diesel engine.  The Dynamis set comes with a Baldwin 2-8-0 but I'm going to want to add a Santa Fe blue/yellow diesel in the near future.  I'm watching a Bachmann DCC equipped GP40 on his site on eBay and was curious if it's possible to add sound later on

Thanks ahead of time

HO / HO DCC trains
September 10, 2013, 10:26:58 PM
Hello everyone.  I'm hoping for some advice.  I'm looking at a few HO-dcc entry level train sets to delve into the digital world.  Bachmann has the 501? two diesel set, Walther's has a dcc with sound, and then there is a Dymamis set with a steam loco.  Any takes on any of these?

Thanks ahead of time
