My 2-6-6-2 is a fine locomotive but is very slow. What CV's can I adjust to increase its top speed?
Thanks
Slow was the name of the game for the 2-6-6-2. They were designed to haul heavy coal drags on tracks winding through the mountains of West Virginia, Virginia and Kentucky. Not to set speed records.

35 mph was very fast for these engines. Kudos to bachmann for getting the gearing right on this model.
Yep. It's the one loco I can't doublehead with any other loco. Looks good all by itself anyway. It's supposed to be a bit slow. Notice the small drivers.
If you want faster, the EM-1 has plenty of speed and big drivers.

On the C&O at any rate, the point of the 2-6-6-2 was to be able to stop doubleheading 2-8-0's on coal drags. And it did that quite nicely.

Wikipedia also mentions they were used on logging railroads. No extra speed needed. They came with no tender also and water tanks on the loco. Google it.
Other countries used this style loco.
Measure yours with three feet distance and a stop watch.

Rich.....
The logging 2-6-6-2s are half the size of the C&O mainline freight 2-6-6-2s.
Not a fair comparison.
