Pulsating dc is rectiied dc with 60 cycle ripple on top of the dc line as seen on an ocilliscope.  The cap will filter out the ripple as long as the cap is large enough so it is always charging under load.  Is the same as a battery load  and is called filered dc.

will the bachman d&rg passenger look small behind my K27?  One dealer tells me I have to get a accrucraft car for over 200.00 to look to scale is that correct.

I bet the chuff will be like the old qsi o gauge 3 rail system with reverse emf and it worked very well and if you were a perfectionist you could mess with the settings until you got it right.  The chuff increase was linear all the way up in speed.  Depending on how fast you let the engine get going before you pressed set you coould get all the way from 1 chuff per rev to 4 or more,

QSI has a new plug in card that has auto chuff and is ready to use once it is in the engine.  anyone try this.

How did you set up the chuff.  did you use the optical circuit or else.  which board did you get the best one or the one for dc on track operation only.  thanks

I would be using an old model Z with 25 volts and 15 amps of current.  I would just make a little box with a 15 amp bridge.  Do I need a capacitor to get smooth dc or is pullsating dc ok?

To run standard dc to track how much voltage will be required for the k 27 and how much current capacity.  Will a lionel transformer with a bridge rectifier and filter cap be workable, or will I need a special unit.  Hope you guys are not getting tired of my questions.  again thanks in advance

Large / sound for the k27
May 18, 2012, 07:09:15 PM
I would like to add sound as I am used to the Lionel legacy sound so quality of sound is paramount.  I am not interested in dcc just common dc with control to activate sound.  I was on the qsi site and like the unit you add to the standard power pack but was not impressed with the quality of the sound that was available on the samples.  Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance for any help.  Dave.

Thanks guys for the help.  The patio idea sounds great as we have a 3 season patio and running it out there would be great and then put it inside on display in the winter when I play with my 3 rail o gauge layout.  Who makes the best and most reasonable priced track in 10 foot diameter for inside use.

what is the minimum diameter curve this engine will run on.  I am going to make a around the ceiling track with silverton pass cars behind it.  How many of these cars will it pull on level track.?  I am sorta new to g scale but I used to have a big hauler battery set with a large track plan out in the patio for kids to use when they came, but I think I am getting a lot better detailed loco with this one I hope.
