HO / Power booster and DCC command
December 21, 2013, 08:28:16 PM
Hi folks.  After my kids get so many different trains, I finally broke down and get the Bachmann power booster.  I am having trouble on how to hook up the wires to the track.  The wires come with the booster is bare on both side.  I don't see where I can screw the wire in on the track.  I have another set of wire which has a plug on one end and bare on the other end but it is much thinner than the one come with the booster.  Is it safe to use those wires?  Those wires come from Bachmann first train track set.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for all the help and info.  After much debate and it seem safe, I order the HO Santa Special Train Set #  BAC00707 for my son.  He really want something that is Christmas under the tree.   Just to be sure, I switch out the controller (use the one come with the Santa Special) and I put the Santa train, the Bachmann 62105 Ho EMD DD40AX and the Bachmann B and O HO Scale Alcofa2 Diesel Locomotive all on the same track.  Without any modification, they should all move around in circle without worrying the motor to burn.  I plan to let them run for more than an hour.

Thanks.

Hi folks.  Thanks for the quick reply and helpful advice.  You guys just save me a lot of money.  I will stop my son for looking at all those Bachmann Holidays train set.  He just find another Santa Special set (another DC set I believe).  Let me see if I understand it correctly, if I get one of those DC set, I should unplug the Digital Commander from the track and use the speed controller that come with the set (Thomas Holiday).  It should run all the train including the DCC train.  However, I should NOT use the Digital Commander to run the Thomas train.  Is that correct?
Thanks for the info on the plug, it's been most helpful.

HO / Digital Commander set and Thomas Holiday set

Hi folks.  After putting the commander set together, my son now want the Deluxe Thomas Holiday set to run underneath the tree.  Is this set compatible with the Commander set?  Is it any Bachmann HO electric train can run on the commander set?  I notice the tracks are different; one is nickel silver e-z track and the other is just e-z track?  Can I combine them together?
On a different note, I just got the Bachmann 62105 Ho EMD DD40AX for the set.  The train run great but I notice there is a small electronic chips come in a separate bag.  The instruction didn't say what to do with it and I can't find any information for it.  Anyone has this train and know what it is?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for all the advice and reply.  Pacific Northern, can you suggest which DCC system that will run with my current setup?  Is it still the Bachmann system?  In other word, can I use the new DCC with my current Digital Commander Ready set?

Thanks.

HO / EZ command power booster
December 13, 2013, 11:55:27 AM
Hi folks.  Thanks to this group, I am able to put together my first train set with a 9 by 5 layout.  I start out with the Digital Commander Ready set, expander set and the first railroad set.  I add in the DCC remote turnout and 2 more train with sound.  It run great and my kids are really happy.  I just order another train but I read that with 5 trains I need a power booster.  Is that correct?  It cost around 200 and more.  Is it a good investment?  Is it difficult to put it together with the Digital Commander?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply.  I am sorry about not starting a new thread.  I want to wrap it up and in case both Hunt and Rich are still watching this thread.
The manual I got from my train set which include the E-Z command control center doesn't talk about activating those additional functions.  Is this not the right DCC for it?  Can Rich point me to the manuals section?
I also checkout the link that Hunt send me.  If I understand correctly, I either need a Tsunami decoder or a different type of command center (not the E-Z) in order to use the extra function.  Is that correct?

Thanks.

Hi folks.  This might be a bit off subject but I just received the Diesel Locomotive - DCC Sound Value On Board.  It works great with the DCC system.  The quick start guide talk about 4 additional sound features that can be programmed for automatic operation using the DCC.  This include automatic bell and automatic grade crossing signal.  I can't find any information on how to do that.  Is there additional equipment I need to purchase in order to use those function?  Thanks in advance.

Thanks jward and Hunt for the reply.  I should have read more before I purchase more tracks.  I now know why it cost $5 more for the numbered tracks.  Thanks again for all the help.

Hello Hunt.  Thanks for the help.  Pressing down on the controller is the thing I didn't do.  It works great.  You mention numbered turnout, is that a different kind of remote turn out?

Hi folks.  I finally get my power pack to use with my EZ command set.  I learn the hard way that I should connect the switch to the DC side of the power pack.  I think I burn out two switches before I realize why it is not working.  I have 2 questions in regard to the remote turn out:
1. Is the switch only work one way?  When I slide the switch, it will move the track.  However, when I slide the switch back to the original position, the track doesn't move.
2. Is there a cool off period for the switch or turn out?  In other word, once I am able to move the track with the switch, even I manually move the track back, sliding the switch back and forward doesn't move the track anymore.  However, if I wait a few minutes or unplug the power pack, I am able to move the track again.
Can anyone who use the remote turn out with the power pack give me some insight how it should work?

Thanks in advance.

Hello, Doneldon.  Thanks again for the help.  It has proven to be most helpful.  However, after hours playing with the old power supply and different type of batteries.  I have not make any progress.  I just place an order for the Power Pack 6607.  Hopefully that will get the remote track going.  Thanks again and will let you know how it goes when I get all my supply together.  I also order 2 DCC remote turn out just in case this one doesn't work out.
By the way, the DCC commander train set come with a manual turn out but it keep derailing the train.  Is there a fix to that problem?

Thanks.
