Wait, the Bachman DCC set says you can run an analog train on it?

Thanks guys.  It did sound bad, indeed.

N / It works! Thank you, Bachmann!

Doing a modular garage layout, using 32" x 80" interior doors for the benchwork, with a layer of 1" pink insulation foam on top.

Set up the first module, using the "World's Greatest Hobby" N scale track pack, and additional track and switches (Total of 8 switches on this module)

Ran a Bachmann GP50 and a GP40 with consists through a track test, and.....it works...GREAT!   Even ran a Spectrum big steam loco and tender through all the routes, without any problems.  Not a problem to be seen, at any speed, forward or reverse!

Very happy. Nice work, Bachmann!

Tonight, I will try Test number two, using  the power for the switches.

Used plastic rail joiners and a controller to have a passing track and the sidings seperately powered (my sidings convert to regular snap track, as I didn't want roadbed except for the mainlines)

Anyhoo, it works!   Now wish me luck  that all switches run fine remotely, and then it's time for phase 2: permanently affixing the track to the board!

Yay!

BTW, I will post picks of my weathering and ballasting system for EZ track.  Looks pretty darn good and is quick and easy.

UPDATE:   7 for 7 on the remote switchces so far!  Had to stop before wiring the eighth to make it to watch football, but I'm confident in that last one working great!   YESSS!

N / Noise from Analog Loco on DCC system

What could cause a very loud electrical noise from  an analog loco on a DCC system?

Is that normal?

I love 'em, once you get them on  :)

They work great over the magnets.

UPDATE:  Installing just the EZ Mates on Locos and stock that use the old pin mounted couplers is like suffering the trials of the damned!  I'm doing it, but I am not having much fun >:(

I'm buying the new Bachman cars with EZ Mates, and preferably magnetic EZ Mates, and ordering those new trucks with the EZ Mates included.

Thank you!   ;)

I think some of the rolling stock I bought, even though "new" is not new in terms of 2012 issue, so my stuff rarely has EZ mate couplers.

Yes, the locos are tricky.   I have changed out some couplers in seconds, others take, quite frankly, a lot of luck and unpredictable time.

N / Tutorial on coupler change outs?

I have a plethora of Bachmann rolling stock and a few locos that I want to add EZ mate magnetic couplers to.

Where is a good source for getting a crash course in coupler replacement?  Book?  Online?  Video?

It looks like it's going to be a bit tricky, and there are different coupler mounting gear on some of the stock and locos.

Also, why not use magnetic EZ mate couplers as the default option on all new Bachman cars?  I loved the EZ Mate system for HO, and assume it is great for N.  Curious as to why they aren't standard?

Thanks.

N / Re: Pair of switches not working, single switch OK

I know of another who had that same problem, one switch would work, but not both in a simple oval with passing loop.

I know he was going to rewire the frog of the one, haven't heard how it worked out.  Interested, as I have the track for a large 3' x 10' layout, which includes about a dozen switches.  Boy I hope I don't have the same problem when I get the track laid out.  :o
