Large / Connie Outside frame current draw
August 24, 2019, 08:02:19 PM
I recently replaced a damaged non driving wheel set on my Connie. Loco worked OK without any cars attached, although it didn't appear the loco was pulling much current. When I attached several heavy cars the loco wasn't able to pull these cars and again no indication it was drawing any current. Any idea what is wrong?

Thank you Chuck for your quick reply. I have tried other locos (LGB Diesel) and it runs great in both directions. I have also tried 2 different Controllers both Bridgewerks 15 amps. Neither engine worked and the controllers indicated 20 Volts but did not show any amps. Unfortunately I haven't tried switching the polarity yet nor have I cleaned the wheels. My back yard is wet from El Nino.
As soon as I can I will try what you suggest. I really appreciate your feedback and will let you know what happens.

Large / 2-8-0 Connie Outside Frame won't go forward
December 28, 2015, 08:49:06 PM
Hello Everyone,
I have 2 2-8-0 Connies, one recently purchased from Gold Coast Station which has metal gears. The other has been repaired by Barry Olsen which include replacing the drive motor. Both were running very good until recently. I made sure my track was good and clean including using a swifter wet mop to get the gunk off the track. The very same problem with both engines just happened. Both engines will go in reverse just fine. Yet neither of these engines will go forward.
What are the odds of this problem happening to both engines at the same time? Does anyone have a clue as to what happened.?
Thanks for any help.

:) I would like to install sound in my Connie 2-8-0 Outside frame engine. How do I disassemble the tender?

Thanks to Bill & Chuck,
I removed the gear cover and it does have a metal gear. With the cover off wheels turn freely in both directions. I then replaced the gear cover and it won't go forward. I have the instructions for replacing the plastic gear. Looks like I need to replace other gears between axel gear and motor. Do you have instructions for this?

Thanks for your help,
Dave

Hi Bill,
Thanks again. I have placed the loco an an elevated track and while pushing the loco backward I examined all the external rods etc on both side of the loco. Every thing seems to be working (no binding or loose screws). When trying to run the loco forward the circuit breaker did not trip. I can hear a noise but don't know if the motor is trying to run.

Thanks,
Dave

Hello Bill,
Thanks for answering so fast. The engine just start forward and then stops. I am using a Bridgewerk Magnum 200 and its rated at 15amps.
Thanks Dave

Hello Everyone,
I recently purchased a used 2-8-0 Bachmann Connie. I believe it is a C17 but am not sure. It has been running great for 3 months until today. After about 1 hour of operation it will run in reverse but won't run forward. The individual I purchased it from said he had the gears replaced with metal gears, however I can't be sure with out taking the engine apart. Does anyone know where I can get a manual? Also any thought why it run in reverse and not in forward?

Thank you for your help,
Dave P.
