On30 / Re: why not smoke
January 07, 2012, 01:07:15 AM
Many many folks have indoor layouts and don't wish to stink up the house. Then the mess on the tracks is not desirable.
Say, small scale live steam might be of interest as you can get real nice plumes of smoke at times and of course you will need a layout outside due to the size.  TOF

I have been looking at the EZ HO turntable and since it is DCC ready, what would be a good decoder to use ?   TOF

HO / Re: How do you hand-lay a wye switch?
December 18, 2011, 01:37:14 AM
Many manufactures make wye's anywhere from at least #4's maybe #3's up to #6.  Unless one wants to give it a try making one, I would at least buy one to to see how they are made.

On30 / Re: On30 shay gears

Since I have most everything that Bachmann made in regards to logging, I have to wait till something new comes along that I just might like.  I have replaced the gearing or fixed the gear issues so that gives me about 14 running engines including the railcars. Upgraded some engines to sound.
Hey these are good looking and now are running around doing what they should.

Sure makes it a lot better having sound installed for my not so nimble fingers needs some rest.   Nice they are making engines with or without so most can be happy.

DWU   Sure would be an improvement if you came up with something new for a change.

We have known about the problems and Bachmann's response by offering replacement parts.

HO / Re: Rail removal

Well guys, I think I'll give it a try as I have lots of HO code 100 loose rail. Since the EZ black version has steel rail which is extremely fast rusting here on the Islands and doesn't sell for very much anyway, I"ll give it a whirl for what it is worth.  And my time is having fun being retired so what the hey?

I'll post a note here after I get started with this adventure.

Here is an idea ?  How about we try the product out and if it works as is was supposed to be, then we pay for it?  Betch they would be making this stuff much better or go out of business !

Of course this ain't going to happen but it was just a passing thought.

Now to find something a little smaller than the 2-8-0 like maybe a 2-6-0 ?

All in all, I like On30 and will stay there till ? Thanks Bachmann for the ride so far as most everything is real nifty.

Thanks Jerry    I kind of thought is was not too hard to do but then I wanted to make sure that someone came back with "it's not a good idea"..   I would only be changing straight sections so the new rail would or should not be any problem and I was thinking pulling out the steel rail shouldn't be any problem either. Of course I know it would best to take it slow and easy.  Cheers  TOF in Hawaii

HO / Rail removal
October 25, 2011, 04:41:58 PM
Someone just might have the answer?  Is it fairly easy to remove the steel rail and replace it with nickel silver rail on the the EZ roadbed ??

Seems like there is not too much demand for the steel rail EZ roadbed as the prices are pretty soft and I have a lot of N-S rail.

Anyone ?   Aloha TOF in Hawaii

Well the cost of sending it or the others back to the fix it shop would be too much as I live in Hawaii and with insurance and delivery confirmation,  might get a back another shelf queen  !  Warranties are good but not if you have to throw more money away for something that is noted to have faults to start with and I have four of these now. Since I'm in these for not much money, I'll have a nice engine yard anyway.  They do look good, too bad they don't run that way too.

Maybe I'll have to move up to larger engines, On30, as they seem to have less problems.

The weather is nice here so it's training all year long and now it's time to play.  Bye TOF
