I have just acquired a model  #00502  HO train set -
never run - but the box is torn up - I would be interested in knowing
when this model was made.

It was made in the late 2000's, it is the HO Steam Digital Commander Train Set. It can be as few as 1 and a half years old or as much as 4 or 5 years old or in that ballpark.
