Conundrum, the truck runs fine, as long as the tiny and "flippy" wheels in front of and in back of the larger wheels are properly placed on the rails.   The working headlights and taillights are very effective.

HO / Hi Rail Equipment Truck with Crane prototype
March 15, 2013, 03:18:17 PM
To the Bach-Man:

I just rec'd Bachmann #16902, a Norfolk Southern Hi Rail Equipment Truck with Crane.  Is it based on a specific prototype or is it a generic truck?

Thanks,
Dave

My grandson and I definitely concur with Len.  Our frequent  setups and tear downs of extensive but temporary EZ track layouts over the past several years have taken their  toll on connecting wires.  We don't plan a permanent layout anytime soon, if ever, since we're having too much fun varying our track plans!  We don't think we're alone.

Don't feel lonely, Steve.  I did the same thing a few years ago, sent the fried one in, and Bachmann replaced it under warranty.  When I received the replacement EZ Command, I promptly taped over the I/O port to prevent a recurrence.

Some websites now say ETA for these locos is 3/31/2013.

IHC Hobby apparently has one type of N&W passenger car, a sleeper for @$18.98.   IHC cars are similar to Rivarossi cars.  They come with truck mounted horn-hook couplers.  I have used McHenry #52 knuckle couplers as a direct snap-in replacement.  I also replace the plastic wheels with 36" or 38" Intermountain wheelsets after clipping off the car's plastic brake shoes which will drag on the wheels if left.

Thanks for the clarification, Ken S.  I stand corrected.  During the Amtrak Rainbow Era, apparently it was anything goes if it was available and "goable".

And if going for Amtrak, don't be afraid to have cars from outside your prototype area appear. If modeling the west, Penn Central, C&O, and SCL cars would be mixed into consists while on the east you'd have UP, GN, NP, ATSF, BN, MILW (in UP colors), Mopac, and SP cars mixed into the consists.

Ken, just to clarify, are east and west passenger car consists switched in your message?

Thanks,

P.S.
I've got the DCC equipped Acela set and EZ Command controls it fine, including power and dummy loco lighting as well as 6 lighted cars (3 cars with set and 3 cars bought separately).

Sparky,

Suggest you check EBay for new EZ Command DCC controllers for @$50-60.00.

My grandson and I have been using a couple of EZ Commands for the last 9 years for our respective temporary freight and passenger EZ track layouts.  Still working fine for up to four non-sound locos or two locos with sound per controller.    When we run larger consists and need to change CVs, we use MRC Prodigy Squared Wireless.

Good luck,

HO / Re: Once again, HO Scale Acela Business Car?

I recommend trying Favorite Spot in Texas, online or ebay which sometimes pulls individual cars from sets for sale.  The stand-alone Acela business car is Bachman Spectrum #89943.  Depending on date of run, road # can be 3517 or 3530, no way to tell from box label.  One of the road #s from a set is 3504.

Good luck.  It took me a couple of years to get two complete Acela Express sets and  I wasn't able to get all different road numbers for the six business cars.
