Title: Newest Freight Car on the Home Fleet
Post by: ebtbob on March 19, 2010, 05:51:22 PM
Here is a picture of the newest freight car on my On30 railroad.   Decals came from the Friends of the East Broad Top company store.   Lettering done by Tim Wells.   Weather done by me using Bragdon chalks and over sprayed with Dulcoat.

Very nice! One question: I did some chalks and over-sprayed a dull coat, and the chalks just mostly disappeared except where it was on heavy. Is that just to be expected?

Thanks, and again nice job!

Mark,

In general,  when weathering with chalks,  you must apply them heavier than what you want to see because the spraying of an overspray does blow a lot of the chalk away.   Now,  the chalks I use,  from Bragdon,  have some sort of an additive in them to help them hold in place.   Even so,  I still put on more than normal to be sure.

Thanks for the help. I figured it had to put applied heavier than normal. I used cheap chalks from an art supply store.  I'll look for Bragdon at my local hobby store.
