HO / Bachmann Spectrum HO K4
February 02, 2017, 04:11:02 PM
I have a older bachmann  spectrum K4 that stopped moving forward or reverse. It is a non DCC engine. I have power to the light. It is a split frame engine. I removed the boiler . I am thinking a gear cracked. I removed the screws on the bottom plate hoping I could see something. The plate will not come off. Any suggestions on how to proceed? I have the diagram from HOseeker but do not know where to go next.Thank you in advance.

I want to add bullfrog snot on my non-DCC K4 and do not know which wheels are the power pick up so as to not put it on those wheels. My tender does not have any wires to the locomotive.

I purchased an older Bachmann HO Spectrum K4 off of Ebay. The pulling power is not that good on a 2 1/2" grade. This is a DC engine. I think that I have to add weight to both the tender and engine. What would be the final ideal weight of the tender by itself? What would be the ideal weight for the loco itself? I have never disassembled a steam engine to add weight so I do not know where to begin. Is there a description paper that shows how to do it or a video that shows how to ad weight to the shell? Thank you in advance.

HO / Bachmann Spectrum HO K4

I recently purchased above off of EBAY. It runs good and I added a Kadee coupler on the tender. I would  like to know what the package that includes a longer draw bar and engine to tender floor plate is used for since it seems to run OK.

HO / Bachmann K4 Kadee couplers

I am looking to put a  Kadee couplers on a Bachmann K4.  On the Kadee website it shows two different numbers. How do you determine if you have a new Spectrum model or just a Spectrum?

Thanks for the comments so far. Two questions that I still have is with the part number, is there a way to tell when that product was made and is there an area that I can find out what the different types of Bachmann products that had names such as Spectrum and such meant including locomotives and freight and passenger cars? Thanks in advance.

Is there any way to tell the year of manufacture and type of a HO Bachmann engine by a Bachmann part number or engine number? Thanks

I was wondering if there is  a website or book that lists past products of Bachmann that you could reference as to when the item was made or introduced and explained what the various model numbers meant. I have searched the Bachmann website and HOseeker and could not find much info.

rogertra , I am not sure where you live but your statement that all the items are fire retardant in my last  post is incorrect. All items will catch fire as I have seen this in 30+ years of firefighting. Anyone who wants to put a flame to cloth , clothing and carpet and wood and think it is fire retardant will be surprised. Draperies, carpet, and rugs will catch fire. I am not saying that foam board will not catch fire but I am saying there are are many different items items that will burn when subjected to a short or flame contact. That is why I said to have a working smoke detectors and a properly size fire extinguisher in your train room.
