HO / Bachmann Baldwin 2-8-0 w/dcc on board
September 09, 2014, 03:20:38 PM
I currently own this nice little runner and was wondering if a Digitrax SD164D sound decoder would work to upgrade it?  The current decoder is in the tender and there is a spce for a peaker already there, along with a 8 pin plug.
Anyone try this?  I like the price of the decoder $45- and they work well in Atheans with 9 pin connectors.

Couple of problems here.  Front wheels seem to jump off the track causing derails. This happens on 30" radius curves.  Happens at half throttle. I made sure the screws are snug to allow freedom of movement but the seem to ride up.  CAn I add a bit of weight on top of the front wheels??  Any other good solutions out there?
Also, what is the "optional"rerail frog holder that came in the box?  the diagram isn't clear how or why to install
Thank you!

General Discussion / Adding sound to N&W J class
March 26, 2010, 02:26:50 PM
I have a very nice running Bachmann Spectrum Norfolk & Western J class #611 with DCC on board
Question: If I wanted to add sound- how complicated is it to add?  I see a spot in the tender with holes for the speaker.
Do I have to replace the current circuit board or is it just a plug in a component?
Thanks

HO / GE Dash 7 B23/B30 dcc upgrade
October 30, 2009, 07:15:41 PM
Hi
Wondering if anyone out there ever upgraded a dc Dash-7 B23/B30 to dcc and what decoders fit it.
I really like this old engine and would like to run it on my dcc layout
Thanks

General Discussion / Norfolk and Western 4-8-4
February 11, 2009, 12:53:40 PM
I just got a new DCC norfolk and Western Spectrum DCC unit.  I am having problems with the tender derailing on curves and switches.  It seems pretty light and the connecting bar between the 2 units sort of binds on curves.  Is there any experience in improving the T shapped bar to let the units run together better?  The bar also lifts the front wheels of the tender off the track.  Any suggestions
Thanks

General Discussion / switching from dcc to dc
January 29, 2009, 08:33:39 PM
Hi
Here is a question I haven't seen yet.  I have a new dcc  system and dcc locos.  Since I have mostly older DC locos, I have a way to switch from the DC transformer to the DCC- depending on the locos I want to run.
Question: Once I program a new dcc loco, it doesn't work anymore on the DC power.  Prior to the initial DCC programing, it did run on DC.  Is this correct?
Also, is it bad to leave non operating DCC loco's on a DC track?

General Discussion / DCC train on a DC track
November 22, 2008, 08:31:32 PM
Hello- new to model railroading.  I just bought a DCC equipped Bachman Spectrum Norfolk and Western loco.
I put it on my regular powered track as I don't have any digital equipment.  Is there something I need to do to disable the remote control in order for it to run on the conventional system?  It barely moves.
