Title: Great Northern S2
Post by: tac on July 18, 2007, 04:16:55 AM
Mornin' All - general question here to all you experts out there. ;)

Apart from high-end brass, and I already have one, BTW, who makes an H0 version of the GN S2 Northern in glacier green colour scheme so a pal of mine can replicate the Empire Builder from the Age of Steam?

Thanks in advance...

And don't forget the most one of them all, the Z1 electrics(and the orphan Y1 electric)! Seriously, without them, you couldn't make it through the Cascade Tunnel alive. At least untill 1956, when the GN installed their giant fans >:(...

On the same note, does anyone make any GN electrics, in either plastic or brass? I wouln't get my hopes up, but I may as well ask.

A number of years ago class  Zs , Ys and even the Ws were produced in brass.
Nothing in plastic however.

I model the GN.  The one from Percision Craft seens too expensive!!  I really want this engine...   But I cannot afford $400.00.  I WILLNOT pay Brass prices for plastic.

I don't know where you come from but $400.00 is not brass prices not for a GN S-2 any way! ???  For the quality of the BLI/PCM locomotives the $400.00 is very reasonable.

The brass models are gone...surprising for $1400+...then again, there once were 30 DCC/Sound BRASS Big Boys, then there were 5 left. :o ??? :-X

It's made of die-cast metal. You COULD afford it if you find the right dealer *hint FDT*. My other dealer does BLI/PCM, too, but FDT gets my BLI/PCM loco business, my dealer gets the passenger car business. ;)

Well, my pal in Portland and I have ordered one each from the new run of Sunset - different versions with open and closed cabs.  I already have the open cab version.

The maker is Sunset Models, the price is around $600 or so, for a brass + DCC-ready, sound-equipped S2...coming toward the end of the year...I can wait.

By the way, the old boxy GN electrics in H0 were made by Max Grey, and often appear on e-bay - there was a Y there last week for around $700 or so.

Test to all
