Williams by Bachmann / Re: Union Pacific E-7 Color
January 30, 2011, 05:37:38 PM
All of the Williams UP stuff is an orange color. I have several Williams locos and passenger cars that range in age from 15 years old to a couple of years old and the color is the same on all. I wouldn't expect them to change the color, because the colors won't match and they want to keep their products consistent.

Just a little info on the E7B, they only come in one road number, so be aware if you're looking for two different numbers, you won't find one. That is the only reason I don't have two B units.  When they run them in a new number I'll get another.

I have a UP E7 ABA set and I really like them. I added dummy upgrade kits to both of the dummies. The kits are an easy install. I would recommend you buy the Bachmann conductive lube when you buy upgrade kits and oil the rollers, roller hinges and the ungeared wheelset axles. I noticed a big difference when I lubed mine.

I have gotten used to the colors and they aren't that out of place with stuff from other manufacturers. I run my E7's with MTH Premier cars and the color difference isn't bad IMO.

Williams by Bachmann / FA/FB and E7B suggestions
January 09, 2011, 05:04:37 PM
How about producing the scale FA/FB's in Union Pacific. These are great looking locos and I would definitely buy them if they were available. Here are the road numbers that U.P. assigned to these units. I did a little research to help out.

FA; as delivered; 1500A-1543A
FA; after renumbering; 1600-1643 ( no letter after these road numbers)
FB; as delivered; 1524B-1541B
FB; after renumbering; 1600B-1642B ( even numbers only)
FB; after renumbering; 1600C-1642C ( even numbers only)

I want another U.P. E7B. How about a run in a new road number? Here are some prototypical numbers.

as delivered; 961B, 962B, 963B, after renumbering; 994B, 996B, 998B

3rail,

Thanks again for your reply. I only model U.P., so I haven't noticed the cab numbers on locos in other road names. Would you please give me some idea about when we might see new cab numbers on the U.P. locos I mentioned?  When might I expect the U.P. 72' heavyweight add-on's? I know it is standard business practice to keep these kind of things under wraps, but I would really appreciate a little info. if you don't mind sharing.

Regards,
Mike

3rail,

Thanks for your reply. I must say I am confused. With the exception of a few new road names, a flat car and the Peter Witt's, every road name on every item in the last three catalogs is the same. The road numbers are the same as they have been. I have been wanting the 72' heavyweight add-on in U.P. ever since I bought my four car set and my scale Hudson, six years ago. The last three catalogs have had the same road names on the heavyweights. None have been deleted, none have been added. I want a U.P. U-boat in a new number. That loco has been produced with #2422 for the last few runs. I want a U.P. Geep or two in a new road number. The last several runs all had #720. The U.P. E7B has had the same road number since it was introduced. I want another one of those as well, but I won't buy one with the same number.

I will mention that the new NS Executives are generating lots of interest. Many folks on the OGR forum have expressed an interest in an ABBA set, but are not interested in two "B" units with the same number. The lack of desire to offer new numbers is keeping a lot of people from buying new locos. I am one of those.

Regards,
Mike

Williams by Bachmann / New catalog?
April 21, 2010, 10:48:01 PM
I just downloaded the 2010 catalog. Other than a handful of new items, nothing is new or different from last years catalog. I was under the impression that you guys were going to do a few different roadnames with each run and cycle through all of the existing roadnames over the course of a few years. I was also under the impression that the locos were going to be run with new road numbers with the new run. Has there been a change of plan? Are you only going to offer the same roadnames and roadnumbers every year with just a few new items?

Williams by Bachmann / 2010 Catalog download

Is the WBB catalog going to be available as a PDF as it was last year?

If this is your only Williams loco and your comparing it to loco's by other manufacturers, the others that replied are more than likely correct. The bulbs will appear dim at low voltages.

If you think you have a problem check the wiring. I had this problem on one of my U-boats. The front light was much dimmer than the light at the rear. I had a broken wire inside of the heatshrink where it terminates at the base of the motor mount. I reterminated the wires and the light works fine now.

I have often wondered this myself about shells for anything they produce. A concern of mine is that a shell on one of my locos or passenger cars will be damaged and I can't get replacements. The other manufacturers offer replacements, I don't know about WBB.

Williams by Bachmann / UP U33C
January 03, 2009, 05:36:01 PM
What road number does the Union Pacific U33C have on it in the latest run? I already have 2422 and want one with a new number. The last few runs before the buy-out had the same number, so I'm hoping you guys will run them in a new number if you haven't already changed it. I contacted a prominent Williams retailer with this question and he said he didn't know and that I should contact Bachmann.

Hi Parawulf,

We will be mailing copies to Platinum Club customers and other customers with recent account activity.

Your Heritage unit will be shipping in the next couple of weeks.

Regards

How recent does "recent account activity" need to be in order to be on the mailing list? How long should I wait before I am able to determine whether I will or will not be getting the catalog? I don't want to get one free in the mail shortly after I buy one.

Well, it looks like one of the things I want is going to be released! The scale streamliner two-car coach add-on's will be out this summer. I have two sets pre-ordered.  ;D It happened a lot sooner that I thought it would. Thanks Bachmann. Keep it up.

Williams by Bachmann / Williams web-site

Is the Williams web-site going to be updated or is the web-site going to be shut down and the Williams products added to the Bachmann site?

I have seen a lot of plasticville parts on E-bay. Do a 'Plasticville' search and be sure to check out the 'additional buy it now items' and store items. Some may be original and other parts may be repros, but they are usually a buck a part either way.

How about an SD24 or a C630. A diner for the scale streamliners would be nice.

I would like to see....

1) New road numbers on locos. The last few runs had the same cab numbers. Mr. H. said that was because they didn't want to change the picture on the web site. Nothing personal, but that is a weak excuse when all you have to do is put a little text under the picture that reads; "road number may differ from that shown". I haven't bought any more Williams locos because I can't get any with a new cab number. Please reconsider your position, I want more locos, but I will not buy any with duplicate road numbers.

2) The dome on the scale streamliner dome cars put on the correct end of the car. Yes, it is on the wrong end, a mistake in the tooling that was caught too late.

3) The cab roofs on the U.P. GP-9s painted gray like they are supposed to be. I don't know why they are not gray. I have never seen a prototype U.P. loco with a yellow roof.

4) Run the coaches for the scale streamliners as a separate sale item. I want some more coaches.

5) Rerun the scale heavyweight combines and pullmans as separate sale items. I want a combine and a pullman or two.

6) Parts available when I need them directly from Bachmann. Not the phone number for someone else that parts out products. The unavailability of parts from Williams was a main gripe I had with them.
