Title: expanding track layout
Post by: samsloan on January 29, 2012, 01:32:33 PM
I'm brand new to trains so, please, bear with me.  I have the basic Chattanooga set and want to enlarge the track.

Do I need more than one power pack to add turnouts?  Or do they run on the pack that came with the set?

You can use the power pack that came with your set to power the turnout controls through the AC tabs. Push the tabs in to reveal the two holes, install the wire in the tabs.
I prefer to use a separate pack to power my turnout's so I don't lose a lot of voltage needed for my loco's. I also run a few lights, etc. off my other power packs. This in mind I have 15 turnout's to control.
If you are putting in a couple you may not need to add another power supply. Throwing one switch at a time does not use a lot of voltage.
