Title: More HO Phase V P42's
Post by: Michigan Railfan on April 27, 2011, 08:28:24 PM
I just finished reading my Walthers Flyer I got in the mail today, and I was surprised to see that Walthers is producing more Amtrak Phase V P42's in 2 numbers (1 & 67). They are a limited run, so make sure you reserve your's. It says they're expected to be delivered in October 2011. List price is $109.98 each.

#67: http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/140-99449
The flyer is available for free and is full of great products from all manufacturers. You can sign up here: http://www.walthers.com/exec/page/mailing
But, it's also available online:  http://www.walthers.com/exec/page/flyer (the P42's are on pg. 9 of the may 2011 catalog).
Just thought I'd let everyone know if they wanted one of these  ;)

My bad  :-\ Since Bachmann doesn't make any of these products, I figured it wouldn't matter. So, Mr. Bachmann ( or who else moderates the forum) go ahead and delete this if it disobeys the code of conduct.

Dear Blink,
I don't see a problem with your post. It's a big anniversary for Amtrak, so there are a lot of new or re-introduced items coming from everybody.
What wouldn't be acceptable is using our site to post announcements for manufacturers who don't bother to host their own.
Have fun!

Thanks for clearing that up Mr. Bachmann. Are you guys at Bachmann releasing/re-introducing any Amtrak products for the anniversary? And have you ever thought about making any Phase 5 P42's? It would be a good profit considering you would be the only company to continuously make them, since Walthers releases them every now and then (and even still they're limited runs).

Dear Blink,
We haven't announced any new tooling, but new numbers are likely.
Have fun!

Athearn makes the AMD 103 P40 and P42 Genesis models, and Walthers got the exclusive rights for the phase V "Acela" paint scheme for their Genesis locomotives, but now that Athearn owned by Horizon the only Athearn product Walthers sells is this loco.
I'm not sure when that agreement ends, but until then Walthers decides when to release new runs, how many, what numbers, and by doing short limited runs keeps the demand up.

that demand for one paint scheme is not enough, however, to justify development of whole new model by another company.

Don't forget, Bachmann already released another Acela Express train set with new road numbers in well-enough time for Amtrak's 40th birthday and I believe around the 10-year anniversary of Acela Express service.
