Title: What Bachmann to consider for old Tyco compatability
Post by: bmh on December 12, 2020, 04:15:06 PM
Hi.  Got my Tycos out of storage from the early seventies.  What Bachmann would be compatible with those engines and cars?  I think I need to avoid a DCC power supply but that's about all I think I know.  Any guidance appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks.  Would the Tycos run on the tracks with the Bachmann controller?

Yes. That hasn;t changed. As for immediate compatability between old and new cars and locomotives, it is possible to modify a couple cars to have a knuckle coupler on one end and a horn hook on the other, that would allow any of your locomotives old or new to  pull any of your cars,

I have run Tyco cars with my Bachmann locos.
I had switched all the couplers to Kadee.
Now what are you using for locomotives? That is the important question.
Sounds like you need to study up on DCC.
There is a learning curve.

I don't recall any issues running both Tyco and Bachmann couplers. I'm going to do just that a little later, and try to remember to get back to you.

No need for DCC. Plenty of good DC power packs around, and cheap.
