Title: HO turn out curves
Post by: estepter on February 18, 2010, 08:29:06 PM
What are the differences in the turn out curves for HO DCC sets - 44130, 44132, and 44135? Does the #5 or #6 require a different radius track?

#6 left

You can use any radius curves with these turnouts. Generally, for best appearance use the standard turnout for cars 50' or shorter, the #5 for cars shorter than about 70 feet and anything larger than 70 feet. Use turnouts larger than #6 for cars like articulated auto carriers and the like. The number corresponds to the divergent route. In a number 6 it diverges 6 inches (right or left) for every inch it is in length. Not that in numbered turnouts the divergent route is straight whereas the standard turnout has an 18" radius divergent route..
