There has only been one physical throttle all along. That is the one that's part of the controller. One thing I failed to mention because it appears support your theory is that sometimes the controller has the display, 'StLo' for stealing control of the address. Might something be done at that point, like stealing control and setting the speed on the phantom address to zero.

Jim,
I tried that and I'm still having the same problem. On the same page it says that the DCS51 runs a purge routine and removes addresses that haven't been used for awhile. In the switch table OpSw 13 can be used to extend the time btwn purges from 200 secs to 600 secs. I probably haven't gone 200 secs without using the problem address. Unless you have another idea I'll go over 200 seconds without using that address and see if the problem goes away.

Thanks
Paul

I checked the wheels and there was nothing binding them that I could see. So I changed the loco's address to something that had never been used to see if Jim's idea was the problem and the problem went away. So now I have to look at the manual and try to clear away that phantom slot but I am back up and running. Thanks everyone, Paul

General Discussion / Repeating loss of power problem
August 19, 2011, 08:12:01 PM
I got a power loss problem that does not seem to fit in with the others I have read about. I have had my layout up and running now for about 2 months. I am running 2 Bachmann DCC on Board locos with a Digitrax Zephyr Controller. I haven't had any power problems until today. One of locos will run for 15 to 20 seconds and then stop dead. After sitting there for about 5 seconds it will start up again. Then it runs again for 15 to 20 and dies. This pattern keeps repeating. The other loco is having no trouble. Anyone ever seen this before?

General Discussion / Wiring Switch Machines
July 11, 2011, 07:59:10 PM
I have my first layout up and running. All I have left to do is to wire the remote switch machines. My soldering skills are non-existent. Are there any wire connectors that are made for wire as fine as the wire on Atlas HO remote switch machines?

Everyone seems to think a lot of Kadee couplers. I was looking at the possibility of swapping out the Bachmann couplers with Kadee. It looks that I would want to use the #158's. Is it worth the trouble to do that?
#22
Right. Bachmann couplers with a Kadee delayed uncoupler. I have ordered the coupler gauge and pliers. Thanks for the info

I have been playing with the Kadee HO Magne-matic delayed uncoupler and Bachmann Silver Series rolling stock with the original couplers. Sometimes it works. Often it doesn't. Anyone have any advice about how to make it work consistently?

General Discussion / Cork for benchwork top
June 05, 2011, 04:40:37 PM
I am looking at using 2' x 3' x 1/8" or 1/4" cork sheets to cover the entire top of the benchwork I am building which is 5' x 8'. I am building this above our garage where the temperature is going to go from 65 in the winter to 90 in the summer. Will I have problems with the cork expanding and buckling and/or shrinking and leaving gaps?

Once again, good info. Some of this I suspected, some I didn't have a clue about.
Thanks

General Discussion / DC Power Pack?
June 02, 2011, 05:07:25 PM
I am going to need a power pack for my turnout switch machines and other accessories. Any suggestions as to what I should get?

One more question. Should plugging in the E-Z command booster into the Loconet A or B be sufficient. Is the Zephry going to automatically recognize that something has been added and try to talk to it. Or I am going to need to start pushing buttons on the Zephyr. I have been a round and a round on this with Digitrax tech support and cannot get them to give me a definitive answer on it. They keep begging the question. These are the same people who told me it wouldn't work to connect it to the Rail A & B connections  I have an RJ25 plug on the way, so I will try it when I get it. I'm just hoping to get a preview of what to expect.

I keep seeing this. Can somebody, please, explain it?

This all good info. The whole thing is slowing starting to come together in my head. One question that I think I know the answer to: If the size of the track doesn't affect the amount of current needed then the need for power feed lines every few feet is to make up for voltage drop thru the track???
