Title: Inexpensive cheap replacement motor / drives
Post by: OkieRick on February 06, 2009, 11:19:34 PM
I have a cheap favorite older GP38 locomotive that the motor & drive wheels have stripped out.  Are these motors & trucks available?

Dear Rick,
You'd be much better advised to buy a new loco and switch shells.
Have fun!

Bach-man is right.  One thing you can do is remove the gears and either remove or cut the wires to the motor and make a dummy unit.

If that's a Life-Like diesel with a 35xx cab number you may be able to get a replacement motor from Life-Like through Walthers. Contact their Customer Service folks at 1-800-487-2467 to check availability. Probably run you $12 - $15 plus S&H if they have them.

Many thanks folks - I suspected it was easier replaced than fixed.  It came with a dummy - I'll find a place in the train yard...maybe the hobos will enjoy staying in / around it.  Walthers has a high nose for sale this month - I'll grab it.
