On30 / Re: ten wheeler sound?
May 30, 2010, 10:09:27 AM
Thank you Bachmann!!!  ThankYou!!!  Now that is music to my ears!!!!  Dustin, as far as the combine#15goes, we are starting to replace windows and rotten wood. They have some great craftsman at Spencer, but there is still alot of work to do,but the ball is rolling!!!!!!!  What a great model it would be to complement the ten wheelers!!!! Hmmmmmmm. :D    Dwayne Calloway

Dustin, I put one of the soundtraxx decoders in my green #12, and it is great except for that "broken" whistle. Once you have heard the sweet sound of the "fixed" whistle, It is hard to listen to the other one.   And if anyone is interested, Work on combine#15 is starting to show good progress at Spencer shops,NC!!!!  Dwayne Calloway ;)

On30 / ten wheeler sound?
May 27, 2010, 09:23:53 PM
Now that Bachmann is offering the ten wheeler with sound, has anyone heard them yet? I was wondering if they had the same sound as the "broken" whistle or the original whistle the ET&WNC had before it was broken?    Dwayne Calloway

The ET&WNC ten wheeler #12 was built in 1917, while the others,#10and#11 were built in1916. The last ten wheeler built for them was#14 in1919.  Number 9 "looked" the same, but was slightly smaller than the others. I think it was built in 1911. All of these engines looked the same, with only small details to tell them apart. While these models are On30, We ET&WNC fans were happy to finally get them!!!  Alot of models are just a 'few' inches off, so the six inches here does not bother most of us. The main thing:  HAVE FUN WITH THEM!!!!! ;) D. CALLOWAY

Johnny, I have tried to find the youtube spot for number14. does anyone know where to find it? I will get the Glory Days dvd and look at it. Meanwhile, the TnT model has black running gear ??? I paint cars on the side some as well as other things, thats why the color is important to me. I am not a rivet counter like some, my thing is paint. Believe me ,there are MANY shades of black!!!! I was going to send some pictures to you and the ET&WNC H.S. but now I don't know  if the color is right!! Ialso have built some scratch built boxcars with the Bachman running gear. (right color on those) They were pretty easy to build.   D. Calloway

On30 / Re: Upgrading a 4-6-0 to Tsunami sound...

BMRR,  I installed my decoder the same way,It was a snap!!  Note; The decoder for the "Tweetsie" sounds "off" because it was recorded when the whistle was broke. The real whistle has since been fixed, so maybe when the sound version comes out, it will have the correct sound. Hope this helps!!   D. Calloway

Matt, I knew the cover was "made" that way, but were the domes green or black??!!##%@  I have talked to alot of people in the know, some say green, some say black. Everyone agrees that the green paint was a dark green and after one trip through the gorge,it would have been darker still. You are right, the cover looks great.... With green domes. ;)  D. Calloway

Royce, I am Like some of the others with Model Railroader!!  They know better!!! On30 is fine to use but they choose not to. Since I have switched scales, I have canceled my subscription with them.It was always about the mega railroads, well, most of the time anyway. It is easy for some of the new modelers to get started with the On30 because they can use H.O. scale track and switch over to "narrow gauge" track later. Nice really. The added confusion of On2 1/2 is not needed!!    Dwayne Calloway

Bill,  Thanks for the info!!!  I can do well with the Microscale Line, but that leaves out the oval lettering on the cab. Ihave never tried making my own. I will send him a letter, and once again, Thanks!!     Dwayne Calloway

Iam not so concerned about the boiler as I am the domes. I think Bachmann got the color right on the boiler. It has a very slight blue tint to it. I like the discussion though, maybe someone else will have some knowledge about it also.

Dustin, Not trying to start a fuss here, just trying to find out the real colors for modeling purposes. Johnny DID write that in the stemwinder,so we have conflicting stories. I am like you, in that the color reproductionon the front of John Waite's book are correct. But Johnny disagrees and he is VERY knowlegable about the road!! But with that said, some in the know disagree with Johnny!! MY grand father used to ride the train but he died years ago, so I can't ask Him. The colors on the front of the book by J. Waite "look" right. I was  told this was a sticky subject!!!!  Anyway, I'm VERY glad Bachmann has made the model, It shows how many people are passionate about the railroad, and that's good for us all.  DC

Hold up on that car wash boys!!!! IN the 1996 july Aug. Sept. issue, Johnny wrote "except for the russian iron boiler jacket" they were like the southern engines. That was in the "stemwinder" magizine. It also said the domes were green!! Now, In his book "The Ten Wheelers" It says on page124  the boiler was a naturally dark blue.(gun barrel). Now in the Narrow Gauge & Shortline Gazette, He says it has an unpainted boiler and black domes. Will the real McCoy stand up!!!???##***  This may not seem important to some but to alot of modelers who show there their work,it is. It seems to me that with everything else onthe engines,(tanks'headlight, wheels, cab, tender, they would break out the black for just the domes. :-\
