Thanks! I love the S-2 - and these engines are a lovely addition for people on a budget.

Another quick question - maybe the Bach-Mann has to answer this one. So the price and value of these DCC/Soundtrax locos are great - but I was wondering, since I will get another different one (I have the S2 - will get an FA2) are they both the same sounds, or are they different, to sort of match the engine?
#33
Thanks - will give it a go  :)

Added - worked great - option 1 is like a 2 horn combo blarp, 2 is a more of chime type, 3 is the sent value, the 1 horn blarp.

HO / ALCO S2 w/DCC Soundtrax - How do you change horn?
February 12, 2013, 12:53:36 PM
I have an HO new Bachmann S2 w/dcc soundtrax. All the ad's say it has 3 choices of horn, but there is no instruction on how and where to choose this. The ONLY document included mentions 'Users Guide' (not included in box, cant find on website) and a 'Technical Reference' (also not included and not found on website) The Bachmann website takes you to the 'Soundtrax' poke, whereupon you get the same 'Quick Start Guide' thats in the box. No other docs or pokes. Say what?

Can the blarpy horn be changed or not? If yes, how please. I am only a 'simple DCC' person, not versed in all the fancy CV stuff.

Thanks

Clean the track - mine stalled at several places, and ran fine after I used the old 'brite-boy'. This stalling happened even though my other DCC/Sound engine ran fine over the same track.

Thanks Bachmann

Also, yes, thanks, ebay has had them but selling way to expensive for my taste and budget. I have a problem paying $114 for a loco that sold for $49-$59 at MBK (RS3-DCC no sound)

Hello - are these engines dead and gone or are/will they be restocked? Its sad to not be able to have gotten one. Just wondering . . .

Thanks from NJ

HO / Re: figure 8 cross overloads my controller

Yes - if you did one of those figure 8 plans, with the 2 or 4 switch tracks also added in, to make it actually an oval, with the 8 inside, you indeed have reversed polarity conditions, in other words, a direct short. Standard DC requires insulating the 'reverse section' connecting it to a reversing switch - like an Atlas Controller, and manually controlling the operation - note - after entering the reverse section, the 'outside' section main power will have to be reversed before the engine comes back into it. Better to get one of the many books on HO Wiring. If you have DCC, it gets even more sophisticated, but at least its automated in DCC after installing the DCC Reversing modules.

HO / Re: All DCC engines suddenly run slow on 2 tracks

RE Reset - if you got a full Bachmann set w/Bachmann DCC controller, the book will tell you how to reset the loco.

Thanks - so this one probably is on the plus side, as I can see two connectors in the pictures. I have used DCC off and on - biggest issue with 'do your own' is being able to see the small stuff. I am not a stranger to soldering, but with my luck, I stay away from steam engine disassembly.

Thanks - but from what I see in fee-bay, many have no idea. And there is no way I am doing one of those wire by hand deals, thats a disaster when you have to take apart the whole dang steam engine. ;)
Here is the reply given when someone else asked

Q: Is this a DCC unit? If not is is DCC ready?

A: It don't have DCC in it.It don't say but I think it is DCC ready. This model was made in 2002. Thank you for your interest. Robert

Hello,

I see that on TCSDCC they show a K-4 with a plug-in socket in the tender. I am sure that not all versions of this engine that are for sale have this. Is there any way to know which ones are Easy Plug and play, and which are the 'blow your brains out' rewire job?
It is rather aggravating that this kind of information is not easily ever provided anywhere that I know. Does anyone know - or do the Bachmann Man Know?
I mean all one can find of most any PRR Steam engine these days is in the used market.

Thanks - Tim

HO / Re: Alco Mogul 2-6-0 Sound Value Review

Sounds like a Greenberg show? I got mine at the Timonium show, also $95, and love it. The sound is very good for the price. I am wishing that BachMan would get more of these and of the other 'sound value' steamer back into circulation.

So - Hello to Bachmann's people - now that you have so nicely made that great addition to EZ track - the 44592 small filler pieces set, has anyone realized or thought of now ditching the one piece of 9" straight that you have to cut to fit in that 'First Hobby Layout Set', and replace it with the correct combo of smal per-made pieces? Anyone thought of that yet? Just thinkin' I am sure it would help - especially when the target audience is most likely novices for that Layout Set
