is an E44 and

is an E33.

E44s came from PRR and E33s came from the New Haven.  I THINK the E44s were longer.

A buddy had one which was a very bad runner.  He double-headed it with a Bowser Challenger for about 15 years.  One day, something inside went +++CLICK+++ .  Now it runs like a watch!

The 2-8-0 manufactured in the 1970s were models of Reading engines, but they were NOT the same as the 2-8-0 avaialble today.    The mechanism today is totally different than the Reading engines.
Todays engine is a model of an IC loco AS BUILT.

Walthers used to sell a P51, ME109, and C47/DC3 but I dont know if they were true 1/87 or if they were 1/72.  They were sold around 10 years ago.

That's the way things are in this hobby nowadays.  Models are made in China in batches and shipped.  When the batch sells out, they are gone till the next batch is run.  (Remember when we all hated Athearn for doing this?)  I have 50 of the 2-8-0s and love them.. I just wish they released the 4-4-0s and ten-wheelers first.

That is correct.  A local logging company had a deisel powered shay and a Dunkirk.

E44s were built for the PRR in 1959.  They were freight locomotives.   They had no provision for generating steam.  Conrail inherited the fleet from Penn Central.  Since they required catenary, their use was restricted to the ex-PRR electrified lines.  Conrail rid itself of those electrified lines and sold the E44s to NJT and Amtrak.  NJT never used theirs and sold them to Amtrak in 1986.   NJT's locomotive hauled passenger fleet of 1986 used steam heated passenger cars, which were replaced by HEP, and the E44 could provide neither.  Amtrak might have used them to haul MOW trains.  Today both railroads use a totally different electrical voltage and no  PRR loco could run on it.
Any time any equipment occupies track outside yard limits it must have orders to do so from the dispatcher and it is a train.

The bear traps were cinder catchers.  They caught the cinders, gave them a moment to burn out and deposited them on the road bed.

On30 / 2-6-0 Prototype?
September 08, 2011, 07:14:11 AM
Is there a prototype for the 2-6-0?  I want to detail the cab.  I know what belongs in a loco cab but I would like to see the prototype.

Use a small screwdriver to press each tab in, then place a toothpick between the tab and floor, to hold each one.  Then lift the entire roof off the car body.

If I remember, the domes on the consolidation are glued on , and there are holes in the bouler underneath.
