Rikc9,

I have 5 of these little beauties and I'm considering installing the DSD090's in them.  I followed your link to the Yahoo site and downloaded the pics as a guide.  Thanks very much for the useful info.

Best regards,

John

Both MR and RMC seem to have a lot more advertising in them than in the past.  That's not all bad - as part of model railroading is the product knowledge that goes with it.  An honest evaluation of tested products would be nice though - instead of politically correct nonsense.  I do miss the how to do it, build a dollar model etc. type articles in both publications.  I know that MR is promoting their online (purchasable) files, and maybe that's why there are fewer topics presented in print.  I have a number of years of both magazines, but I'm beginning to think that something like the Narrow Gauge Gazette might be more helpful as far as building things from scratch goes.  Alas, all things change with time.

Wonderful work Jon.  These pics should be included in the Bach-man's Gallery.  There is a section for Consolidations.  I checked your site out too.  Many interesting scenes.  Cheers!

Hi Jim,  Yes, it was 3 rail tinplate.  I got a Canadian Pacific - pacific locomotive and 3 coaches in the blood & custard paint scheme.  They were really British prototypes, but back then I didn't know that.  For my next birthday I got a Royal Mail coach that actually picked up and dropped off lead bundles of mail at a Post station.  Alas, it and I parted company many years ago.  I've often though of trying to purchase another one, but the prices are huge!  British Hornby collectors pay in pounds what us Canuks pay in dollars for them (at 2.25 to 1 last I checked).  I do have wonderful memories of it though.

Cheers!

HO / Re: Size and weight of Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0

The Bach-Man has a good number of pix in the gallery on the Connies - including one with an all weather cab in CPR lettering - which looks amazingly similar to the brass one that I have.  Reading the other posts it looks like an awful lot of railroads had 2-8-0's that looked similar to the Spectrum one - which IS a very good runner.

Haven't seen any new Woodland Scenics stuff for a while.  All the WS structures that I have are old cast metal ones.  Any of the DPM ones that I have are plastic.  All are in kit form.  Maybe it's time to go back to the LHS!

Hi John,

I believe that nothing has changed as to the type of material used in each line but check the website of WS and you'll see that there are lots of new things available or soon to be available. Your LHS might not have the newest stuff in stock yet.  But it’s good to know that you at least have a LHS. <sigh>

Cheers,
Rich R

Thanks Rich,  I'll take a look and see what I've been missing - or at least what I can expect.  We're fortunate to have 3 very well stocked hobby shops in Calgary.  Next weekend is SuperTrain - our annual train show and one of the largest in western Canada.  I expect that there'll be a lot of interesting things there.  Sure helps pass the time in the winter here.  Today it's about -4 F and snowing sideways!

Cheers!

General Discussion / Re: just curious

Hi,  I now live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and have for the past 10 years.  Spend most of my life in Toronto, Ontario with a short stint in Sterling Heights, Michigan.  I've been interested in trains as long as I can remember, and fortunately recall seeing Canadian steam in action in Toronto in the '50's.  There was also streetcars in town and a subway system.  I started model railroading in OO with a trainset, but switched to HO as there was much more available product.  Stopped during my later teenage years for motorcycles, cars and girls, then got the bug again in my 20's.  I've worked for CPR for almost 38 years, have 2 sons, 1 daughter, one grandson, and 2 ex wives (one at a time).  I've built several layouts, planned more, collected brass and now have a good collection of Spectrum & P2K equipment. I'm planning a new layout in a 12 X 22 ft area.  This one will be between 1900 - 1920.  I love the small loco's that Bachmann has provided and appreciate the availability of the website that has been created.

I've tried - doesn't seem to work - probably not as computer savvy as some.  I miss my old profile!

HO / Re: Bachmann should have more Canadian stuff
February 10, 2007, 01:24:11 PM
The Royal Hudson, Selkirk and Jubilee all share similar traits.  They are all streamlined, have all weather cabs etc.  Bachmann used to have a "Texas" in their standard line - upgraded chassis - new shell - Selkirk!  Hudson & Jubilee are pretty close cosmetically (except for wheel arrangement).  Wouldn't take whole lot of work to spin one off from the other.  CN had some nice looking steam power too, but I'm not too familiar with it.

Only accurate Canadian steam I've seen is bra$$ and mostly older stuff at that.  I have some Van Hobbies, PFM and Tenshodo examples, but they never ran as well as the Spectrum line does.

I'd certainly buy a Royal Hudson (or two) and perhaps a couple of Jubilee's.  The Selkirk's are just way too big for my purposes (or the design of my layout).

Cheers!

Thought I just read in MR recently that Bachmann decoders only accepted short addresses - could be wrong, I am getting older.
