On30 / Re: Coupler screws

Rich, I've got several that I'm not using, since I mount new coupler pockets on all my freight cars.  Drop me an email and I'll drop 10 in an envelope.

Charging $850 for an On30 loco... That would be cold-hearted.  Especially considering how many people have been waiting for one.

On30 / Re: Bachmann On30 Mogul Tender for the BLI C-16
February 10, 2007, 06:13:29 PM
By the way, the article describes how to transplant the BLI sound system into the Bachmann tender.  Not an easy thing to do, and Harold shows every step in detail.

Thanks Harold, I have a C-16 on the workbench now, and you just opened up a whole new can of worms for me.  I had already planned on replacing the cab and pilot, and removing the cast-on boiler details before installing new piping.  You mention on the site that you plan on backdating the loco, and I hope this includes new piping on the boiler.  That would be fun to read, and very helpful.

Good point Royce, I've thought of that before.  Unless you are going to setup your layout lighting for nighttime [which I plan to do], there is no need to have working headlights.

Dusten, if you aren't willing or able to learn how to disassemble your 2-6-0, we can't help you at all.  Your only option is to call Service.

And the reason some of us bug you about your spelling is that we know that being able to spell and write will greatly enhance you job prospects in the future.  I know that if I didn't have decent spelling and writing skills, I wouldn't be able to afford all these great trains!

Dustin, I would take the engine loco apart, find the wires that go to the motor, and hot-wire it to the tracks, to see if the motor is working properly.  Have you ever added lubrication to the gears?  The ones inside the loco?  If this loco has several hours of runtime, it might need some grease.

On30 / Re: Vertical Clearance for On30
February 05, 2007, 02:34:39 PM
I did a quick check, and the 2-6-0 mogul stack is a good 3.5" above the rails.  The passenger cars also need 3.125" to clear.  Oddly enough, the 2-8-0 is just short of 3" tall over the rail heads.

4" would be safe, especially if you are looking at locos from other manufacturers.

Dustin, no one outside of Bachmann knows anything about what's coming out this year.  The best we can offer is a suggestion, or hopeful speculation.  And the Bachmann crew seems to be better than the CIA at keeping these things quiet.  The only thing close to a leak is Walthers.

So, until Bachmann makes another announcement, we just don't know.  But a 10-Wheeler would be great.
