Hi Dick,
Long time no see :)  Haven't been on here in a LONG time...
anyway, did you ever get this issue figured out?  I've never installed or even seen in person one of the sound only DSX models, but it would have to have power and ground which you could tap into from the already present wiring, and it would have two speaker leads going to the speaker, and probably the brown chuff wire for a chuff disk if you choose to use it.

If Bachmann didn't make the UP 4-8-4 that's in the Overland set, then who did? lol

Here's how to make one (for the latest version in the set):

Buy a Bachmann Niagara.  Paint it Grey, leaving the cab, the sand dome and (I think) the pilot black.
Renumber and reletter it and there you go.

The 11xxx part number would be a Plus can motor version from the 1990s.

No plugs or sockets - you have to isolate the motor and hard wire it.  I used to have a web page up with instructions, but that page is no longer up (though I still have the text file and could email it if you'd like).

I don't know for sure that either was older than the other - both might've been out at the same time.  Seems the 'with smoke only' (no headlight) version was what I've seen in the long white boxes, whereas the smoke and lighted version was in the shorter white/yellow box.

Either way, with the new release of the updated version just a few months ago, there's no point in bothering with it.  The new version leaves the old ones in the dust.

(still trying to figure out how to add a signature block)

Gene,
While logged in, click the Profile button at the top of the page (home, help, search, PROFILE, logout).

On that page, there's a menu at the left with 3 main headings.  Under 'Modify Profile', choose 'Forum Profile Information'.  Near the bottom of that page, you'll find the Signature box to create your signature.  When done, make sure to click the 'change profile' button so it updates and saves your signature.

Not 100% positive, but didn't those old horn hooks just twist out?  IIRC, there's a hole in the center the fits on a nub - you just twist it a bit to get the hole to clear the nub and the coupler slides right out.  I also was thinking that Kadee would have you cut off that truck coupler pocket to body mount their replacement, but follow their directions to be sure.

Two ways - either a 2-wire plug ran back to the tender from the boiler, or (more likely) sound decoder wired to pick up power from the rails from the tender wheels.
