Large / Bachmann G Scale Side Dump Car
October 24, 2015, 12:22:56 AM
In doing some scratch building using these cars chassis I discovered the metal frame chassis have two versions; both are metal but one has small springs and journals, the second and probably latest version with noticeably larger springs and journals.  From what I can determine both versions are the same item number, making purchase (Ebay, Trainz, etc.) difficult.  Pix on these sites often do not even reveal these details.

I'm hoping you folks who keep up with this info can help me figure out how to verify BEFORE purchase which chassis it is. Guidance would be most appreciated.

Cheers,

Will

Large / Need Help Solving a Mystery
April 27, 2013, 09:14:10 AM
A photo of a large scale Bachmann shay turned up in the many downloads I make of interesting models.  I've learned to jot a quick note as to path so I can get back if I need to, but this must have been before I learned my lesson.

It is a very distinctive vertical boiler 2 truck Shay.  It's been converted to 2 pistons and is nicely weathered.  It's a wood burner and has a long peaked veranda.  I can barely make out it's lettering: "Possum Grove & Oil (something).

I'd like to find out who the builder is and ask some questions as to whether it was built from a prototype or freelance, etc.  I've done repeated searches on what little info I have to no avail.

If you can help me locate this modeler/model I would appreciate it - not being able to get some answers is killing me.

Williams by Bachmann / Advice: O gauge chassis
April 22, 2013, 12:43:49 AM
Hi,

I'm a 7/8 modeler and O gauge is 18" in that scale.  I'd appreciate advice on an analog 0-4-0 diesel and 0-4-0 steam low profile chassis with good slow speed running characteristics.  Same for a two truck diesel chassis (to model Climax type locos).  Low profile is important to leave room for batteries and electronics.  DCC ability not important.

I don't follow O gauge so I'm clueless.

Thanks,

Large / 45 Ton Diesel Side Rod Removal
February 02, 2013, 04:57:08 PM
Hi-

Anyone out there familiar with the procedure to remove the side rods and counterweights?  It appears there are "plugs" covering the screws holding the side rods and counterweights on.  How to remove the plugs without disfiguring them so they can be replaced.
Thanks,
Bill

Large / Bachmann 45 Ton Diesel Basket Case
January 07, 2013, 08:01:36 AM
Hi-

I'm looking for one of these for the working (or repairable) trucks (or truck for that matter).  Could use the hoods as well.

Bonus would be an entire unit but at a bargain as I'm going to cannabalize . . . er, um . . . give it a good home.

Road name/color are not important.

Best,

Will

November 03, 2012, 01:58:32 PM
Just got my latest issie of GR and was reading an interesting article on batteries.  Looked at the authors name and . . . lo and behold it . . . it was none other than our own Loco Bill!!!

Excellent, thoroughly researched and informative article Bill.  Thanks

If I missed that this was discussed earlier, I do my best to keep up.

Thanks again,

Bill

Large / Original Bachmann Shay Refurb
February 17, 2012, 07:14:53 AM
Hi-
When Bachmann repairs an original 2truck Shay (doing so recently) do they automatically replace the trucks with the revised diecast ones?  All I can find out is that the loco would not run, hence the return to Bachmann.  The trucks have 6 screws on the bottom plates from what I see.
Thanks for your input on this.

Large / Porter Smokebox Front
October 13, 2010, 10:51:00 AM
Hi-

Jeff Saxton made a Large Scale Porter SmokeBox Front when he was in business.  I'm hoping to find one someone wants to sell.  It'll be used to modify my Bachmann 0-4-0.

It's possible that Jeff still has one left but I have not been able to find out how to contact him.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Also, what other forums would you direct me to to ask this question?

Thanks,

Bill

Large / Bachmann 4-6-0 Domes
October 07, 2010, 09:26:03 AM
I'm doing a kitbash of a Bachmann Porter and need both the steam and sand domes from the ten wheeler that has fluted domes (ridges)(older prototype), not the smooth sided domes most Bachmann ten wheelers have.  It seems the versions with wood burning balloon stacks have the fluted domes.  The White Christmas Express Train Set on this website is an example.

I'd rather not have to buy the whole locomotive on somewhere like EBay just for the domes.  Anyone have those domes, or a whole boiler or a damaged one?  Sure would appreciate it.

Please contact me offline at my email address.

Thanks,

Gandy Dancer
