Sorry, my reading skills are wanting!!   The Christmas Handcar you have sould be either red or white in color.    Both colors had the same number.  The comments I made for the yellow and grey versions also apply to the christmas versions.  The red is the older version with the worst motor and gearing while the white is a later version with a better motor and gearing.  The transformer you are using is fine.

Again good luck

These handcars are not the best runners due to the small size of the motors, and the gearing.  It also often stops on switches due to the short wheel base and the fact that the electrical contacts are from the wheels not wipers like on most LGB items. If it is new then it is best ot run it at various speeds and see if it settles down.  If it is yellow in color then it is one of the older ones.   The newer ones are grey in color and had a some what improved mechanism, but still not a great runner.   Your track and wheel on the handcar must be absolutely clean for the best posssible performance.  Even with considerable tweaking they still do not run great.   Some have had success by battery powering it with mini cells and wires run from the trailer to the motor.

Hope this info helps even if not the best of news!!

General Discussion / Re: Bachmann Trains

97418 is a D&RGW full Baggage car in maroon first offered in 1995,  but it should say that on the end of the box where you found the number.  This is one of the older cars with plastic handrails instead of metal and MAY have the plastic wheels which are also less desirable.

What is it you really want to know?  description??

Best thing you can do is put the items on a watch list on Ebay.  Then when one is offered you can get an idea what folks are4 willing to pay.  This car has sold for as low as $10 on ebay, but an average is more like $25 to $35.

I have a lot of information on these items,  and if you contact me directly I could appraise the approximate value of everything you have at a very reasonable cost.  I alwways provide infor for one or two items on this forum at nom charge, but the research effort is time consuming.

As a part of my ongoing research on Bachmann G SWcale I monitor Ebay and in the last four years I have not seen a Heisler parted out, or seperate parts for sale on the heisler.

I feel that your best bet is Josh's Uncle or someone else reading your need and willing to give one up.

It also couldn't hurt to contact Bachmann Service to see what they might have.

It is too bad Bachmann does not sell these parts seperately as I feel they could make some money at it.     The parts fo0r the K-27 seem to be selling well.  My son and I have bought doghouses to put on Connies and I am getting a plow for my connie!!

Good Luck

It can't be more than an amp,  Mine running on track power up a 3 % with lights on but no smoke draws less than half an amp more lie a quarter amp.

I have the data on how to tell the difference between all the handcar versions, but I am away from home and my data sheets on the handcars!

If there is any interest I will post the info after I get back home.

Yes there are severl brands of aftermarket sound boards you could install to get bell & whistle.  The lower cost units are made by Dallee,  or the QSI brand units.

Try typing those brands into Google, you shoud get some idea as to what is avalible

Merry railroading!
