Title: Sound decoder used in Southern Pacific GS-4 4449
Post by: gtrains55 on December 10, 2020, 09:08:32 PM
I would like information as to which sound decoder is used in the Bachmann Southern Pacific GS-4 4449 locomotive.
Also is the decoder compatible with a QSI Quantum Engineer controller, and if not, recommendations for a controller which would be.

Welcome.

Last I knew, Bachmann used Soundtraxx sound decoders. The CV list is in the Bachmann page.
The controller should work.
Look at the manual online.
Good luck.

Maybe in the 4449.  But some of the newer offerings are featuring TCS WOW decoders.  In my opinion, an unfortunate change.

Caution -

Unless QSI Quantum Engineer Controller has been upgraded  ---   the QSI Quantum Engineer Controller works only with QSI decoder equipped locomotives.

It is my understanding that QSI is out of business.  If that is the case, I'd start with a new system.  Or you'll end up like Netscape based software, unsupported.  Just like what drove the N&W out of steam power, disappearance of industry support.
