Title: can I add smoke to this Berkshire?
Post by: cujo on January 17, 2010, 10:56:29 AM
First off, hello everyone....first post.  Just got back into model RR a couples years ago with my son and we are looking to make an addition to the family:

We are both fans of Berkshires 2-8-4's, specifically the Nickel Plate 765.  The only one I can find anywhere is the Bachmann rail fan version.  But we also want one that smokes.  Bachmann also offers die cast Berkshires that smoke, but not the Nickel Plate and they are also too expensive for us.

Would it be feasible to add a smoke generator to Bachmann's rail fan Berkshire?
If so, any recommendation on a smoke unit?
Or anyone know of other manufacturer's Berkshire in HO?

I am running a DC layout.
thanks....

Adding a smoke unit to this engine could be a problem. Along with what ABC said about not having enough room and needing to know how to put it in, and how it makes the tracks dirty, the heat could also melt the stack. There have been some cases I've seen on this board where smoke units completely melt the stack off, because it is made of plastic. Which is why the one that comes with smoke is die-cast.
