Title: Big Eagle Railroad
Post by: Cody J on December 05, 2009, 02:44:56 PM
I am working on researching all of the rail lines, subdivision..etc of West Virginia. I am currently working on CSX with NS later but I also want some shortlines of WV in my research. I came across the Big Eagle Railroad today and can't find any information on it. All I can find is this:
http://www.gottrains.com/winifrede/index.htm   which came up as a result of a Google search and of course there is Railpictures.net but there aren't that many photos of the RR on there.
Does anyone know anything about this or any websites where I might be able to get some info?
Thanks

here are some present day operations that are interesting.
1. cass scenic railroad. shay powered excursion trains to the top of bald knob. the railroad rises 2400 feet in about 12 miles, with two switchbacks and grades of 10% in places.

2. south branch valley. former b&o branchline, runs grain trains to a major chicken farm, also home of the potomac eagle excursion trains.

3. csx stony river branch. this former western maryland branchline winds its way to a power plant on top of a mountain, on steep grades and sharp curves.

4.  the b&o west end, now csx mountain subdivision. this is the original railroad from the east coast to the ohio river. parts of the line west of fairmont are now abandoned.
