Before I get too involved, has anyone installed DCC and sound in an Athearn BB F7A or B? The DCC is no problem, but probably would be a TIGHT squeeze for the sound...esp the speaker. The F7A has the large super power weight inside. The B unit has the same. I do have F7A & B DUMMY units too.

January 05, 2011, 07:26:43 AM
   Hi there,
Does anyone know if Life-Like ever made a baggage car and a combine car. I have some Amtrak passenger cars with the figures at the windows on paper and would like to get one of each baggage car and combine car if they can be found.

HO / Bachmann Spectrum Cars keep uncoupling
December 25, 2010, 12:56:08 AM
I have a set of the Bachmann Spectrum heavyweight passenger cars. I replaced the horn hook couplers with Kadee #148 Magne-Matic couplers. It doesn't matter if the cars are going on a straight away or around a curve, one or two of them keep uncoupling. I noticed that the cars have the coupler boxes that pivot with the trucks. I am running 18" curves due to limited space. I have tried replacing the couplers with fresh ones, but it still keeps happening. Any ideas on how to prevent this. Do they make a coupler that is solid as I don't have the need for uncoupling the cars.

HO / Ho and DCC.. I NEED HELP!!
December 11, 2010, 08:52:00 PM
Ok Here's what I have. I have a Bachmann steam engine and tender with DCC onboard. It is a Southern Pacific  Daylight GS4 4-8-4. Inside the tender is all the DCC stuff. It has a decoder Bachmann# 44915 which is DCC only. So to upgrade this to SOUND I just need to get a sound decoder with the 8 pin plug and remove the other decoder and plug the new one in? Of course I need to get a speaker too and the bottom of the tender already has the holes in it.  The other locos are not DCC ready. Just DC and I know there is more to it to upgrade those...isolating the motor, wiring for power pickup etc.... Am I on the right track?

On30 / Need Info & Help With DCC & Sound!
August 01, 2010, 08:26:39 PM
I have a Bachmann On30 2-6-0 and want to install sound in it. I am new to all this DCC stuff and sure would appreciate some help with it.

First off the engine is DC. It has nothing. I have been looking at alot of things online and think I am getting to know somewhat about what I need. I have been looking at the Bachmann E-Z Command System. Seems it can run DC & DCC engines. I would like to install sound in the engine that I have. I assume that I can do this and NOT install DCC? If I do install DCC, is it just a matter of getting a sound decoder and plugging it into the DCC decoder and programming/running it? I dont really have to upgrade the engine to DCC? The decoders I like are the Tsunami Decoders.
There is NO room in the engine,so I guess I would have to install everything in the tender? Oh and also, How large of a layout will the Bachmann E-Z Command System handle? I have two 6 x 8' tables connected with two 12' straight sections.......sort of a large oval "L" shaped track. Any help/info would be greatly appreciated!!

HO / HO RP25 31" wheelsets
January 07, 2010, 07:10:46 PM
Where can I purchase RP25 31" metal wheelsets? I have searched the Net and cant find any place that carries them. The only place I knew of was IHC-Hobby and they must be out of business. Their website has been down and IF you can get someone to answer the phone, they dont have anything in stock. I cant use any wheelsets larger like 33" or 36". I am putting them on IHC SS passenger cars and the larger wheelsets hit the brake shoes. Any ideas?

HO / Metal wheel sets to replace plastic ones
November 16, 2009, 06:49:59 AM
I am new to all this HO scale stuff, but I am learning. I just found what I was looking for.. Southern Pacific Daylight passenger cars. They might have plastic wheel sets on them and I want to change them over to metal. I am confused. at the IHC web site, they list RP-25 metal wheel sets for their cars, but they are out of stock and don't have a clue when they will be getting any more in. I see on EBay and at some dealer sites, that they offer RP-25,  31" and 36" wheel sets. I know I need the wheels with the needle point axle ends, but what does the 31# and the 36" mean. Which wheels do I purchase. I believe the carsthat I purchased are Athearns or IHC.

HO / Where are all the passenger cars?
November 13, 2009, 10:26:03 AM
Well I guess nobody wants to sell HO trains that bad. I have been checking all over and the selection of cars is very very slim or nonexistent. International Hobby is the worst! Rp-25 metal wheelsets are no longer carried by them. Interior kits....they don't know when they will be getting any in. And the passenger cars themselves, are on backorder with no due date in sight. Guess I should have kept my O-Scale trains!

I have been watching EBay and the are some of what I am looking for but not whole consists.

Is there any LARGE dealers that stock HUGE selections of passenger cars. I would like to get the Southern Pacific Daylight in SS or CS or even in Heavyweight. Got the engine and tender, just need the cars to go with it.

Has anyone had any luck building large scale buildings? I am looking for buildings that you can print off a printer and then glue to a firm surface and cut out and glue together.

I have been looking for a sound sytem for my Big Hauler. It is a DC operated train. I have heard there is a place in St Clair Shores Michigan that sells them. Anyone know of the place? I also have been looking at MyLocoSound also. Has anyone heard any reviews about this one?

Large / Sound for large scale
July 03, 2009, 04:14:00 PM
Well I bought my FIRST set and it should be here next week. I got the Silverado passenger set. I think it looks sharp! My question is, will it be hard to add a sound upgrade to it? I'd like for it to have a bell and whistle and maybe the chuffing if the standard chuffing isnt that good.
Also how large of a power pack will I need if I enlarge the layout from the standard oval?

Large / Upgrades for G Scale
June 20, 2009, 05:38:50 PM
I am somewhat NEW to large scale. I did have one set some years ago but now I would like to get back into it again. My question is, I see that the "Annie's" have metal side rods and trim and the latest drive mechisms. Are these upgrades available for engines that dont have  them?
