Title: Handy Train Controller
Post by: Yampa Bob on May 17, 2009, 02:42:50 AM
I receive interesting questions by email from modeling friends abroad, the latest one has me stumped.

The question was, "Has anyone heard of using a "Handy" to control trains?"  After an extensive search, I came up with a "Handy Board" used in Robotics.

However, further communication revealed that "Handy" translates to Mobile Phone on this side of the pond. Soooo, has anyone heard of using a Cell Phone to control trains?

Don't know about using a Mobile, but Lenz has an XPA adapter which allows you to use a local CORDLESS home phone as a hand controller. The US made systems use radio frequencies which are illegal in most other parts of the world. FWIW

Bob, it must be possible as my wife uses her cellphone to control me.

Erik,
My friend actually made reference to a "mobile phone", that might translate to "cordless phone" over here.  As often mentioned, we are a common people separated only by an ocean and the "English" language.  :D

I searched and found this site, I'll pass it along:

Thanks for the information.

Ray, Ain't it the truth. We have two cell phones, my wife insists I leave mine on so she can keep track of me.   8)
