I'm going to be hosting a small gathering of friends, some of whom would like to see my trains running. Since my layout is upstairs, I'd like to leave one going (unattended) all evening. (HO, DCC)
I've seen trains run continuously at shows, and I've always wondered if there are any detrimental effects to letting a loco run at the same speed for a few hours.
Thoughts?
Thanks.
You should have someone watching. Someone is always watching at a show. Someone to turn off the power in case something happens.

When I am down at my model bench, I usually have a train doing laps of my 11 X 22 foot layout. They will run for hours on end, unattended and without a speed change. Keep everything lubed and you won't have any issues. This is assuming you have trouble free running, with no derailments, now.

I use to do it with 0-27 but never DCC HO scale.

My layout is DCC and HO scale.

What would be the issue with HO DCC?

No issue at all.

I appreciate all the feedback.
Just remember that for all intents and purposes, the motors on the HO engines are air-cooled. A slow crawl in DC is bad for the motor.
