Title: ez mate couplers

can Bachman's EZ Mate couplers replace exsiting couplers on older style Bachman, Tyco and other brands rolling stock?

it's not that simple. yes, you could probably dropan ez mate in the coupler box on these cars, but the height would be off and they wouldn't play well with the rest of your trains. you could go to the trouble of mounting a kadee coupler box on the floor of the car and inserting an ez mate or kadee coupler, but that's alot of work. i'm not saying don't try it. it can be done, but you'd need the right tools: kadee coupler height guage, pin vise with a 2-56 drill and tap set, coupler trip pin pliers, some 2-56 screws......

an easier interim solutionis to make an adapter or conversion car. take an older athearn or roundhouse car with horn hooks, and replace the coupler on one end with an ez mate. it should be a drop in replacement and the height should be pretty close to the standard.
