I've noticed lately online a lot of James models have been popping up with Black wheels. Is Bachmann finally producing them with the grey problem fixed? Just curious.
Can you find any proof of this?
Hence why I asked. :P
I wasn't sure if they were being painted by the people, or being manufactured that way.
Well, the wheels look gray in this pic.

Not sure, but if Bachmann did fix the wheels on the model, I think they would have also fixed the smoke box too. :-\

Doesn't help that I've had this pic in my drive for years now, so no surprise there. :P It's outdated.
I purchased a James sort of recently. I think that people just decide to paint the wheels and smoke box black. I've done this aswell. So, I don't think it's been changed.
I don't have James but I do know he has gray wheels unfortunately but where is the smokebox because I can not tell.

His face is on the smokebox. Anyway, until this was mentioned, I never really noticed the lack of black paint in the 2 places on the smoke box. I notice it greatly now. The wheels were always a question in mind. I don't want to go at it and paint the model to fix the errors because I'm worried of fudging it up. :P

I looked on Google and he does have a Black smokebox not a gray one.

Read the posts beforehand. James has an issue of Gray Wheels, and a lack of Black on his smokebox support.
Also, Google would be most unhelpful in this case. Most of what you'd see would be that outdated stock photo.

Wouldn't that make it the least helpful then?

That's what I'm talking about, the cylinder James's face is in is black, other than that I don't see the smokebox in these pictures. Sorry if I'm being a pest. :(
What some are trying to say is compare a picture of the TV James to that of the Bachmann James and you will see the 2 errors.
TV series:

Bachmann model:

Possible improvements, minor retooling on face.

That and lots more.. :P
O.K. now I see the issues, the face and the wheels

apparently..... :D
I myself might consider giving James an open cab. It's a pitty they only did that with the prototype model. >:(

i gave james and eagle an open cab and some weight too they look perfect now!
can u post pics
Sure the open cabs are nice but I don't mind that the cabs are not open on Thomas, Percy, James ext. Then if you do try to gice them a open cab it may come out sloppy ( By that I men it may be uneven or the yellow stripes sorrounding the cab will kind of come off ). Then you would have to get a new model of the engine you used. Just giving my two cents on the matter. :P
Yeah, but Henry has an open cab, and I am sure that Gordon does too. And maybe Emily and Spencer.

Where were you able to add weight to James in his boiler and cab?

No, where did you add the weight? By the way, I don't know how to file is too big, unless you have a bad internet connection.
IDK it just says that, and i got the weight from trackmaster engines i used for parts like Neville Hank and Molly i managed to get 2 square weights in his cab without being able to see them when the cab was put back together
Where are there weights in Trackmaster models? Secondly, why are there weights in Trackmaster models?
i dont know anymore i used those models as scrap for my model railway, there are wieghts because when an engine pulls cars around a curve they dont tip over
So how much do the square weights weigh? Maybe I could just match the weight with something else... Would lead weights be a bad substitute?
