Title: Another question about the 45-Ton Switch engine
Post by: Arizona on May 10, 2007, 04:41:08 PM
I have the engine torn apart and now I need to know what side of the engine is the bell on?
Thanks, Bob

Bob:

The bell is on the side opposite the control stand.

On this model, the bell appears on the fireman's side, which is, as described above, the side opposite the control stand in the cab, or the left hand side when you consider that the front of the locomotive puts the engineman on the right when moving forward.

It is, as you've discovered, possible to assemble the engine "reversed" as you've no doubt discovered, and there are examples of this locomotive's prototype where the bell is on the engineman's (right hand, same side as control stand) side ... so you can't really go wrong.
