Some months ago while visiting the "NEW" I love Toy Trains Store in New Buffalo Michigan, I found a Williams O-Gauge S-2 Tender in New York Central markings.
I was wondering if WBB made a Pennsylvania tender???
Thanks!
Hey, Fred.
The following is a long winded way of saying "3rail might know..."
My guess: WBB, unlikely.
2010 is my only WBB catalog, though.
Williams: Don't know. Could be....
My earliest Williams Catalog (actually a folded 22" x 34" double sided poster) is from August 2003.
It shows separate tenders for sale, Berkshire and S2.
The S2 is offered in 3 road names:
N&W (orange? red? stripe) (#S2TEND-05)
Undec (#S2TEND-04) and
NYC (#S2TEND-02)
$79.95 Comes with True Blast II digital whistle and bell.
Replace your missing tenders for your postwar locomotives, like: 671, 681, 736, 773 (1965 ver.) & others.
The Berkshire shows only Luxury Lines. (#BRKTNDR-02)
$99.95 Comes with True Blast II digital whistle and bell.
Replace your missing tenders for your postwar locomotives, like: 726, 773 (1950 ver.), 2020 & others.
These might be leftovers from a previous catalog offering. (My earliest catalog, holes in the item numbering system....)
Follow up catalogs show a 2140WS S2 Turbine 4-car (2400 series) passenger set ($430) with a Pennsylvania tender behind a 671 Turbine
(engine-tender separately $250), so it is a possibility that the Penn tender was offered separate sale in a previous catalog.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Joe Satnik
Hey Fred,
I have to agree with Joe S., you have a pre WBB tender made by Williams when Jerry Williams still ran the company. It's a very good product, just left-over inventory from before Bachmann. I have not seen any single sale tenders in catalog or on-line at the Bachmann by Williams website.
Marty of Ma & Pa Trains sells some older Williams stuff that he still has, so I am guessing that others do the same. I bought a Williams unpowered GP-38 for Reading Lines from Marty just recently and it was Williams(before Bachmann). The GP-38's for what I want are not being made currently by Bachmann.
Lee F.
Thanks Joe and Lee!!!!!!!!!
That NYC is really nice. Just maybe WBB may consider some "other" road names
for Tenders only.
I also went and checked the packaging for the tender and it was WILLIAMS
just as you said!!!!!!
Fred,
Western Depot has the Williams tender you are looking for, also some other older WBB products.
Lee F.
I don't think Marty is back selling after a personal event. That's bad. he was my W/WBB to go merchant.
W did have various tenders for sale every so often. I did get a PRR streamlines for my Lionel turbine, which did not have one.
Dominic,
Marty was back from whatever was wrong, unless he had a relapse?
His website may not be up and running.
If you want a tender from the pre-Bachmann era try www.westerndepot.com
Lee F.
Dear Lee
i checked out the web page.
There were only 2 Williams Tender types listed
Luxury Lines(which RR was that?????
Western Pacific
Only $99 each !!!!!
Under the passenger cars are the sets 4 car or 2 car?????
Thanks Lee!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Fred,
Luxury Lines is the name that Williams substituted for Lionel Lines.
Some of the most popular Lionel items that Williams (and now WBB) reproduced had the Lionel Lines road name.
See the Golden Memories section of the catalog.
Hope this helps.
Joe Satnik
Williams before Bachmann sold five and six car passenger sets. To the best of my knowledge WBB sells either; four, three, and two car passenger sets. The three and four car sets are what people like the most. The two car are add-on sets and have addition cars for the listed railroad; like an observation car or a vista dome and a baggage or combo car(half baggage half passenger).
The steam engine tenders are left-over pre-Bachmann items from Jerry Williams.
To the best of my knowledge the name "Luxury Lines" was first used by Lionel during the post-war, or pre-war time and is a toy train name, not a reel railroad.
Anyway $99.00 for a Williams tender is a bit high, more like $70.00 woud be a realistic price.
Lee F.
I don't think Lionel ever used Luxury Lines. They used Lionel Lines.
$99.00 is probably a little high but it is difficult to find a similar Lionel made tender for less.
I have seen similar Lionel tenders sell for $150.00.
The Lionel tender would not have a set whistle pattern as the Williams or WBB tenders have.
Thanks every one I finally found some one selling a tender with
Pennsylvania lettered on the side for a nice price !!!!!!!!!
Finally!!!!!!!!
In credibly I found someone sellin a tender with the Pennsylvania on its side.
I got it for about $13. delivered!!!! It should arrive today I will post quality etc when it arrives
and i get on the computer again!
Dear Fred,
Congrats on your find.
It seems that amount would barely pay for the postage...
Sincerely,
Joe Satnik
Still hasn't arrived yet perhaps in Saturday's mail

Finally!!!!!!!!
Let's hope that it is not the tender shell only! For such a low price sounds like just the shell for the tender, no frame with truck assemblies. I could be wrong and somebody made you an excellent deal.
Lee F.
The tender came in today's mail.
It's a disappointment. There is is very little weight to it and "rattles"
I am going to attempt to remove the shell and see if it will fit the Lionel lines
frame. If not it goes back to seller. I'll let you know how this goes!!!!!!!!!!!
For $13.00 delivered you got a bargain it will cost that much to return it to the seller. I need to go into my old Williams catalogs and see if the Berkshire was sold in Boston & Albany which is the correct road name for that Berkshire. The actual NEW York Central never used Berkshires only there P&LE and the B&A. I believe it was cataloged by Williams but maybe never made because of poor pre orders. I been searching the bay with no results and now will dig out my old Williams Catalogs and maybe will find out if they were made. Maybe someone in the forum knows. Williams made so many variations that it is almost impossible to create a list of there Pre Bachmann production.
Try Alex Cooper auctions this weekend, as Marty from MA &PA Junction has several items for sale there. I guess Marty is going out of business.
For more info, go to OGR under what happened to all the pre-Bachmann by Williaams?
Lee F.
Yes Marty did go out of business due to health issues. I did check my catalogs and they did make the B&A Berk apparently one year only from what I seen, so Ill check this weeks Cooper auctions if no luck I'll keep a watch in the Bay for one. Eventually one will turn up.
I really wish that Williams by Bachmann would seriously consider selling their die-cast tenders as a seperate sale item next year. The tender offered with the WbB Small Hudsons and Berkshires is a nice substantial piece. I am sure that I am not the only one who would purchase a seperate sale tender to replace/retire their 2046W Lionel tender. I think that the Williams tender is an awesome piece. I bought a Williams Small Hudson a couple of years ago and the tender that came it with is just super! ;D What do you think Mr. Bach-Man? You could offer the tender as a seperate sale item and aim it at Lionel Post-War steamers as a replacement or update. Maybe offer it in three or four roadnames per year? PRR, NYC, ATSF, B&O, etc. You guys probably know what would sell. ;)

Here is a WbB Pennsy Hudson I own on my layout. NICE TENDER!!!

Below is a closer up view of the Williams tender.

The Lionel steam loco in the back row has the 2046 tender which I feel now looks rather small compared to a Williams tender. ;D

Dear Cobra
You are torturing me!!!!!!! Those tenders are great!!!
You have a great looking lay-out!!!!!!!!!
Since my son and I won't rear things down until Christmas break you gave me a couple
on the double line elevated with the "under-bridges" looks great
Would mind posting a couple more pictures of the lay-out
Thanks!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Fed! Here you go! ;D

Bob,
Are those F-3's with the Santa Fe 'El Capitan' passenger set?
I have a set of F-7's with the 'El Capitan' six car set, and your passenger cars look similar.
Lee F.
Lee,
Yes the locomotives are F3 A-B-A's by Williams. I have a seven car set of Santa Fe passenger cars which are from the MTH Railking line.
Bob.

Woh-ski!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those are great pictures. Thanks for the views!!!!!
Finally was able to secure a Pennsylvania tender that looks like the Lionel one that is
supposed to be in very good + shape. Paid $20 total with the shipping. Let's see how this one works out!?!?!?!?!?!
I agree I would like to see WBB crank out some tenders.
OR
just produce extra of Engine-Tender series currently in production to keep costs down.
Those tenders that come with the Hudson's are nice so are the slope backs.
Another line I have grown to appreciate is the Pere Marquette. Up near New Buffalo
Michigan just across the Indiana border is a Converted Train Depot with a P.M. museam.
The original 3-bay round house is still there!!!!!!!!!! But it's converted into a health club!!!!! Where the big doors used to be are glass block windows. Everything else
is as it was except the brick has been re-tucked.
Where the turn table used to be is a round pool with geese and ducks swimming in it
the central mechanism has been removed and is just a small island for the birds to hang out. There are some old RR cars and huge coal station that loaded hoppers is
still there!!!!!!!!!
I had an extra tender for the Pennsy S2 steam engine by Williams but sold it over a year ago, it had the Pennsylvania railroad on the side. Bought it from an independent Williams dealer about seven years ago.
I would like to sell some of my Williams stuff due to a work slow-down, working maybe two days a week if that.
Lee F.
Drop me a line with some items I can let some others I know take a look.
Thanks!!!!!!
Cobra
I hope you don't mind I am picking your brain
but
your layout has some features I would like to incorporate not to mention it is
impressive. I like the over-under.
If it's alright what are the general length and width dimensions and do you have
a photo a little more birds-eye view.
If your train derails or you want to clean the track up against the wall how do you plan to do that??
I have Fas-Track also but I plan to lay down indoor outdoor carpet I found at Menards.
It's tans and browns short fibers very thin looks really nice, I plan to "dry brush" some green into it I already tested my idea on a sample piece of the carpet. It's on
close-out for only $0.29 a sq/yd. The carpet does cut down on the noise as our bedroom is above the area in the basement where the layout is set-up and our 9yr/old loves to run the trains about a half hour before he has to get to bed!!!
Fred,
Sorry that it took me a while to reply to your questions. First, my layout measures 8'6" x 13'10" and is in a "U" shape. Second, To reach the track along the rear wall for cleaning or any derailments I climb up on the layout. I built it to be very sturdy, so I can do this. Fortunately I have not had to climb up on the layout too many times to clean up any wrecks. Third, I like your idea of having a sub-roadbed to quiet the noise of trains running. My layout is VERY noisy when running! But, I like it that way.
I hope this helps. I will try to include some more photos. ;D

That is really nice. The "birds-eye" view helps a lot.
Thanks for the time and help!!!!!!!!!
Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!
