On30 / 2-6-0 suggestion for Bachmann
October 27, 2013, 07:43:28 AM
I think most ON30 modellers will agree with me when I say that the 2-6-0 is the most kitbashed/modified/detailed ON30 steam loco around.

Its a great loco as is and without DCC and not as detailed or complex as other Bachmann/Spectrum ON30 steam locos, not to mention much cheaper, it must have been a good seller for Bachmann, and has had a long production run with a recent revised version.

Anyway I have had an idea which I think would be a winner for Bachmann with very little (if any) financial investment up front.

My idea is that a "kit" version of the 2-6-0 be marketed, RTR chassis but the rest unassembled and preferably undecorated. For instance domes, running boards, bells, whistle and cab would not be assembled to the base boiler/smokebox/firebox moulding.

Besides saving the hassle for modelllers of stripping these parts off, the cost savings to Bachmann of not having X number of people sticking on the domes etc. would be considerable.

And I believe it would sell very well. I for one would buy several.

If any employee of Bachmann reads this I would be very interested in your thoughts on this, as well as the loyal ON30 customer base that frequent this section of the forum.

On30 / Great service !

I bought an outside framed Forney from THEFAVORITESPOT on Ebay, along with a load of other dark green boxes.

When it turned up here in the UK, all looked fine, no package damage or anything but when I unpacked the Forney the engineers side piston was snapped right off and loose in the box, the valve gear and rods on that side were very bent and several detail parts were missing.

Weird as there was no damage to the packaging and all the other items were OK.

An email to THEFAVORITESPOT via Ebay resulted in a very fast response from Ray. Bear in mind they are 6 hours behind me and it was literally overnight. He gave me contact details for Bachmann service in the USA and I got an equally rapid response from Laura at Bachmann.

Very helpful, she has sent out a new one and asked me to return the damaged item when the new one arrives. She even took the time to email me to tell me it had been checked and test run so would not be sealed.

Thanks to Ray @ THEFAVORITESPOT and Laura @ Bachmann I got my problem resolved with the minimum of fuss - thanks guys !!!

If anyone from THEFAVORITESPOT or Bachmann reads this I would be grateful if you could make Ray and Laura aware of my gratitude.

HO / Re: USRA 0-6-0 - removing shell
February 16, 2011, 01:59:23 AM
Thanks guys !

After watching the video I gave it a try and popped right off first time.

AS mine is DCC equipped, I had to undo a tiny screw to enable removal of the cab roof, required to ease a loop in the DCC wires out of the cab to get more clearance for the removed shell.

The DCC is hard wired so to get the shell right off the chassis would require wire to be cut.

As I am going to use it for On30 that is no hardship to me.

Thanks again.

HO / USRA 0-6-0 - removing shell
February 15, 2011, 04:59:05 PM
Hi

I have just acquired a new USRA 0-6-0 switcher (the one with a tender) that has factory fitted DCC.

As it was sold on Ebay from a split up set it has no instruction sheet.

I am at a loss as to how to remove the bodyshell. I have the Bachmann parts diagram but besides the screw at the rear there seems to be nothing much else holding the shell on.

Anyone know how to get the shell off before I take the Dremel to it....................?

Thanks

Bachmann has a wonderful 2-8-0, and this is a model you can get at low prices now.
To me, this is the best ever Bachmann On30 engine and I´ve made several conversions
with the little Connie. She´s much more "Chunky" than the little 2-6-0 is.

Hi Tom

Would love to see some pictures of your conversions and maybe some idea of how you did it for the benefit of the terminally clumsy, like me.  ;)

Thanks

On30 / Shorter smokebox optionon 2-8-0
January 31, 2011, 05:26:03 PM
All, please be gentle with me as this is my first post on this forum.

Anyway I have modified my 2-8-0 to the shorter smokebox but not sure what to do about the large gap left in the frame below where the extension was.

I could leave it as it is but but it looks "unfinished".

Has anyone done anything about it ? If so what ?

Thanks
