Title: Whats the difference between the plus and spectrum F7?
Post by: highball10 on September 27, 2008, 01:20:39 PM
I have both plus and spectrum F7s. They run about the same, is there any difference?

Funny thing about the PLUS is that they ran well out-of-the-box, but the more you run them, the worse they run.  The SPECTRUMs will run a little better as you run them, until they reach their peak performance, which they do after a few hours of break-in.

The problem is that the gears in the PLUS tend to crack.  NWSL offered metal gears to correct this problem, but I do not know if they made them run any better.  The SPECTRUMs do not show the gear cracking problem, at least not with any consistency.

The shells from the PLUS will fit onto the SPECTRUM chassis.

The SPECTRUM Fs are mediocre runners.  They will run well at speeds above thirty-five SMPH, anything below that and they will not hold the slow speed with any consistency.  They are good pullers, however.  They are not expensive and are not bad as 'entry-level' type locomotives.
