....  Are the #6's longer?

Keith

I've never owned a #5 but according to SCARM the #6 is about 3.75" longer.

Hello, All
.....
I bought the two #5s because I was running cars that are too long for the regular turnouts.
.....
Thanks,

Keith

Can I ask, why didn't you get the #6 turnouts?
I chose those right from the start to avoid derailments with larger locos and cars although I still get the odd derailment. They are 10 degree, the #5's are 12 degree.
I'm going to have a look at the DCC Wye turnouts as they are 6 degree.

They don't make a crossover switch either, so wish they did .....
I use one on my Marklin Z scale and it adds variety to the layout.

wtierce, I highly recommend you get the free CAD program SCARM.
www.scarm.info
I'm running 26" and 28" dual track with #6 crossovers and will soon add 33.25" and 35.5" track. SCARM has all the Bachmann track listed and is very intuitive making track selection a breeze.
I've never needed to cut track to get pieces to fit. As already mentioned Bachmann have a 44592 HO Scale E-Z TrackĀ® Connector Assortment to make things easy.

You'll need to be a bit more specific.
Have you contacted NCE?

General Discussion / Re: DCC Turnout #5 Problem

Hi, All

OK, i've decided not to give up after all given the encouragement you've all provided. .......
I feel your pain keesu.
I have a rather large DC Z scale Marklin layout with about 25 turnouts and it all works flawlessly. As I age and my eyes strain looking at 220:1 I recently bought a considerable amount of Bachmann HO EZ Track for DCC operation.
So far I have four turnouts and two crossovers and for the most part it all runs great, even on the floor. However for some reason one of my 4-6-4 locos derails on the left crossover but not the right. It can be frustrating but I'm expanding my layout to the point where I can avoid that crossover with that loco and move on.
I have a dual oval, soon to be triple oval layout with sidings in the centre running 3 diesels and one steam. A mix of Bachmann and BLI.

If I get frustrated I just have a break and come back to it later rather than bin everything altogether ;-)

2.) Stop lights and Semaphores.
I didn't notice anything like that (beside pure cosmetics) on Bachmann site. I know that Marklin has semaphores that can be set to auto swithc once train passed and actually stop trains. (To be honest it wasn't clear to me how is that achieve and is it done on dcc or dc track.)

...

I haven't delved into this side of DCC yet but I do have a DC Marklin Z scale layout and I believe automation like this can be achieved using reed switches that are triggered by passing locos/rolling stock.

....  I have a friend who has all switches decoder controlled, and unless you've memorized the address of each one, running a train there is a frustrating exercise in trial and error. on the control panel method, you can at least  have a map showing which buttons controil which switch.

....

I have a Dynamis setup with DCC switches and use your method to keep track of what button to press. I built my layout with the help of SCARM and with it you can print your layout. I then number each switch and sit the labelled plan in front of me. Couldn't be easier.

As I understand it, it depends on track voltage to determine the state of the loco.
At least with my BLI diesel and steam locos the sound system activates at around 7 volts.
Eg. With my Dynamis I can use F6 to either water fill (stopped) or change chuff frequency (moving).

Thanks, just placed an order at The Favorite Spot.
